My Vampire Faints at Blood Chapter 68

Extra Chapter 1 – Cardiac Arrhythmia Causes a Coma

Doctor Shang has recently developed a problem with unconsciousness.

At first it was fine, just an occasional blackout that lasted no more than three seconds. Later, it became more and more serious, until he collapsed in front of a patient while on duty, which scared his colleagues half to death.

Collapsing in the emergency room is apparently the safest way to collapse. Within three minutes, an unconscious Doctor Shang had been carried to the consultation bed, given a bedside ECG, put on a ventilator, attached to a cardiac monitor, and had the privilege of being electrically resuscitated several times by a colleague with an electric pad.

Doctors have always been the most overworked, and with their high workload, effort, and risk, emergency physicians are at the forefront of all departments. But there was no reason to overwork people into becoming patients, so when he saw Shang Haojia, who had been easily saved, leaning against the lounge with a pale face, the director gritted his teeth and approved a three-month leave with a stroke of his pen.

"Director, I actually think that I can still help..." The discomfort in his body came and went quickly, and Doctor Shang stubbornly tried to struggle one more time before being carried back to the break room by the director by his collar: "Leave, leave, you're not the only one in the emergency department – Another news story about doctors dying of overwork and no one will want to be a doctor in the future."

He was in awe of his director's concern for the country and the people. Doctor Shang nodded convincingly and sat back in his chair, pressing his wrist to take his own pulse.

Seventy beats, not too high, not too low, with regular and strong pulses, he really couldn't figure out what the problem was.

Treatment between fellow medical professionals was always haphazard and sloppy. Doctor Shang barely managed to button up the few buttons on his shirt that hadn't been ripped off and was fidgeting with the pen in his hand, contemplating how to write his definitive diagnosis, when suddenly there was a figure beside him.

Wei Long had obviously come in a hurry, and the blood in his pupils had not yet receded. Propping one hand on the table he was leaning on and half-crouching down, he looked up in concern, "My dear, you-"

The moment he saw his lover's bloodshot pupils, a sudden premonition flashed through Doctor Shang's mind. With a tug on the other man's wrist, he expertly and automatically jumped into his arms, "I'm fine, we have to go to the Special Department."

The vampire's response was also quite seamless. He picked him up by the crook of his leg, placed a sloppy kiss on his forehead, and stepped lightly through the window into the night.

The whole sequence of movements was executed in one fluid motion, taking no more than 3.5 seconds at most.

"My dear, you never told me you've been dizzy lately." The vampire's low, elegant voice rang in the human doctor's ears. It was no less soft than usual, but there was a faint tremor of fear.

At the time he had been informed of Shang Haojia's latest situation as a family member, the pureblood king, whose power was out of control, was shaving the werewolf butler, and had accidentally shaved a large area bald, leaving the innocent half-blood husky now lying on his back in the bedroom, howling like a wolf.

The human doctor blinked sheepishly in a rare moment of guilt and leaned further into his arms, "I've been so busy lately, I thought I was tired and didn't care much..."

His research had reached its most critical stage with the strong support of the Special Department's extensive data, and he often spent his nights in the lab while working during the day. With the completion of his PhD thesis just around the corner, he had intended to wait until he had finished writing it before dealing with his situation.

The electric shock was so unpleasant that his chest still felt like it had just been hit by a train. Shang Haojia secretly rubbed his chest, when suddenly another cool hand pressed the back of his hand, gently pressing it clockwise: "Does it still hurt?"

"Much better." This time, Doctor Shang was indeed guilty, and his attitude was rare and cooperative, causing the vampire to gently curl his lips. Continuing to rub him patiently, he landed on the roof of the Special Department with a few long leaps, "Why did we come here, my dear?"

"I always felt the problem was out of this world and not something that could be solved by scientific means." Being a doctor himself, or an emergency physician known for being a jack-of-all-trades, Shang Haojia certainly wasn't going to keep letting his situation develop. All of his arrhythmias had occurred in the hour past midnight, and rather than make up some new disease, he preferred to believe that he was possessed by something.

Hearing his lover's words, the vampire gently placed him on the roof of the building and his expression dropped grimly.

"There are indeed tricks that even I can't detect." Knowing what Shang Haojia wanted to ask, he simply gave a straightforward answer, his pupils suddenly turning blood red as he carefully examined him from head to toe, "If that's really the reason, I probably know who we're going to find."

Doctor Shang had always trusted his vampire when it came to the non-human world.

However, as he listened to An Muxi sing the fourth song, even the human doctor with the title of Great Demon King finally felt some indescribable pressure.

"What's that look on your face – I told you I haven't sung in ages, and I'm now at the 8th level of Taoism!" Despite successfully rapping instead of singing, being off key was still an unspeakable sore spot in the heart of the yoghurt elf. Looking at his old friend's disgusted face, the elf, who had been promoted to the director of the Human and Non-Human Harmony Office, stormed up again and glared at the vampire, "What the hell are you two doing, coming to my place in the middle of the night to listen to me sing instead of exchanging feelings?

"Sing another song, I can probably feel his fluctuations already." Wei Long spoke slowly, holding his jaw, and the unquestionable tone in his voice caused An Muxi to lose his temper instantly, reluctantly continuing to raise his voice: "We are the successors of communism, carrying on the glorious tradition of our revolutionary ancestors-"

"Shut up – don't sing anymore!!" A dark and gloomy voice suddenly exploded, and a jet of black air shot straight out of the human doctor's chest and towards the unsuspecting elf. But before he could get close enough, a spell slashed through his body with precision, pinning him to the boxwood desk.

"Master!" An Muxi turned his head and shouted cheerfully, jumping headlong into Yan Maifan's arms.

"From now on, don't provoke such things, and if you do, you have to set a boundary first, remember?" Steadily catching the large elven pendant that had lunged at him, Yan Maifan patted him on the head and watched as he nodded obediently before turning back to the vampire at the side, "I thought we had that taken care of, I can't believe that the demon was allowed to possess Doctor Shang's body and none of us were able to notice it at the time – for this matter, we will make a sincere apology and have a review."

"It's not your fault that the demon didn't come to the venue at that time. I thought he would back off, I didn't expect him to still look for the mark left by that dark magician and find his way here." Wei Long shook his head, straightened his doctor's shirt for him, took the other man's hand, and looked over with concern, "How are you feeling now, my dear – is there anything uncomfortable?"

While watching the legendary demon burrow through his chest, the human doctor remained truly senseless and just shook his head in bewilderment.

"... Really don't feel anything at all?" Unlike what was said in the secret biography, the pureblood king blinked, suddenly doubtful of his own handiwork.

After a long, unproductive moment of staring at each other, the well-informed Yan Maifan finally pushed up his glasses. Smiling, he shook his head and thoughtfully spoke up to clear up the confusion for the two, "Your Doctor Shang is under contract with the dragon clan, and his soul is similarly reinforced by the dragons, the demon's teeth can't gnaw on it. It's just that as he tries to gnaw, Doctor Shang will get somewhat dizzy from the shock to his soul – Look at how skinny and bony that demon is, in fact, even if he left it alone for a few more days, he wouldn't be able to resist running out on his own."

"......" Not really being able to figure out how he could tell the skin and bones of that black mist, the vampire wisely chose to give up on pursuing the question. After confirming that his human was indeed fine, he was relieved to say goodbye to the two, and went back with a box of soul-warming elixirs, intending to completely remove those teeth marks from his doctor's soul.

Being carried by his vampire as he leapt through the night, the human doctor was only vaguely feeling a little sleepy. Yawning very lightly, he tilted his head curiously and asked, "Where did the demon come from?"

"At that auction, that dark wizard named Lang Weixian tried to sacrifice you to the demon – but the demon couldn't make it in time because of the traffic restrictions. You acted so quickly that we finished him off in the blink of an eye." Wei Long smiled and spoke in a low voice, casually conjuring up a cloak to wrap him in and dropping a soft kiss on the top of his head, "My dear, you still have some minor damage to your soul, have a good night's sleep, you'll be fine after that."

"It'll be fine now, our director has given me three months off..." This time, the tiredness did seem extraordinarily hard to resist, as if it was bubbling up from the depths of the soul. Shang Haojia yawned again and expertly found a comfortable position, leaning against his vampire's chest, his voice almost murmuring from being too sleepy, "My PhD should be here soon – how about we go out for a holiday when the degree arrives?"

The vampire's eyes widened slightly, and some surprise flashed in his bloodshot eyes as he lowered his head and kissed the corner of his lover's lips, his smile finally unable to stop spreading from his brow, "Happy to oblige..."

  1. Ahhhh finally we could know why they asked the lion for traffic resistance. Good thinking on their part!

And as a bonus Doctor Shang even got 30 days vacation. 😁
