My Vampire Faints at Blood Chapter 27
"Certainly – I'm sorry to have troubled you." Looking at the sudden change in the situation in front of him, the fire dragon hastily replied in a flattered voice. Only after watching the winged lion fly away did he finally breathe a sigh of relief, and couldn't help but curiously tug Shang Haojia's sleeve, "Doctor Shang, what exactly did you say to the winged lion envoy just now? Why did he suddenly decide to let us go?"
"As a doctor, I am obliged to keep the privacy of my patients and their families, so please forgive me for not being able to answer this question of yours." Doctor Shang smiled, then looked over at the vampire who was clearly holding back a smile. Coughing softly, he blinked towards him and shook his head slightly.
For the first time, he experienced the side effects that come with oversensitive hearing. Doing his best to stifle a laugh, Wei Long nodded rather painstakingly, "Please don't worry, my dear friend – shall we leave now? I noticed that our young and handsome little friend is on the verge of tears..."
"Little friend – do you mean me?" Looking at the vampire, who was actually looking at him with some kindness, with a complicated look, Eli couldn't help but sit up straighter, "This vampire gentleman, I must emphasise one point to you – while it is true that my grandmother courted you, that does not mean that your seniority is automatically set at that of my grandfather..."
"No, no, lovely little one – after all, if I were to go by the actual generational hierarchy, I really wouldn't know what to ask you to call me." Wei Long shook his head with a smile, stood up straight, and leaned over with one hand on his shoulder, "After all, I was born in the middle of the sixteenth century, in the time of Mary Tudor. I was expelled by Mary Tudor and have a very turbulent past with Elizabeth I – If you want to do the maths, your grandmother would have been born at least two or three centuries after me." (Angel: Mary Tudor was the Queen of England and Ireland from 1553 to 1558. She is also known as Bloody Mary.)
Listening to the vampire in front of him speak with seemingly great certainty, Eli blinked bewilderedly and looked helplessly at Shang Haojia, who looked away. The latter, however, merely nodded cruelly, holding his arm and patting him on the shoulder, saying in a serious manner, "Be a good boy and call him grandpa."
"Grandpa my ass! It's okay that this vampire is old fashioned, but why are you taking advantage of him! Are you–" Irritated, Eli removed his hand with an annoyed gesture. However, before he could finish his sentence, his expression could not help but change. Looking at the two men, his gaze suddenly became quite meaningful, "No way... Old Shang, come here, I have something to say to you."
Looking at his rather indescribable expression, Shang Haojia raised his eyebrows nonchalantly. Without resisting, he was pulled all the way to the door, "What can't you say in front of them, why do we have to come out?"
"No, no, no – are you really going to get real with him?" Eli shook his head in disbelief and looked torn for a long time before sighing softly and resuming with difficulty, "I'm not saying this because he's a vampire, that would be racist – anyway, from what you guys are saying, he's a vampire who's been on a diet, I don't think he's going to bite you in your sleep when he gets hungry. He does seem to have all the right qualities and a good personality, and apart from talking a bit oddly, he doesn't seem to have any generational gap with you, and his family is quite rich..."
"Then why are you giving me that look as though I've been arched? Just because your grandmother pursued him? Don't worry, I'm not going to call you grandson because of that..." It was rare to see this old classmate struggling. Shang Haojia was in no hurry to go back and just leaned against the door with his arms folded. Raising his eyebrows, he waited patiently for him to finish his rant. (Angel: The arched here comes from the saying 'the cabbage was arched by a pig', which is a metaphor for beautiful things to be spoiled and destroyed.)
"You're the one who's the grandson! – Say that again and I'll get really mad at you!" Looking at the other party's meditative look, Eli couldn't help but jump to his feet. It took half a minute before he finally pulled the man to his side, "I don't know what you're thinking... but he's all white like that, don't you think that look is a little too familiar?"
"Huh?" This time, he really couldn't understand the other party's words. Shang Haojia blinked blankly, looked at his old classmate who had almost exploded into a twisted mess, and sympathetically patted him on the shoulder gently, "Eli, has your speech function deteriorated because there's never a living person in the lab to talk to you?"
"Fuck off, so all the people I talk to are ghosts?" Eli glared at him without a smile and sighed heavily before he finally squeezed the shoulder of his old classmate in front of him. Leaning over to his ear, he lowered his voice, "I mean, he's got all the standard characteristics of death, and you don't have a hard time being with him? I'll be honest with you – when he's lurking around the edge of the room and not moving, I want to take a knife and cut him open..."
"..." Silently looking at the old classmate in front of him who has lost some heart, Doctor Shang was quiet for a while before finally shaking his head painfully, "Eli, you should hurry down to the clinic to practise – Now I can really see the difference between clinical and research positions. Every time I look at him, I think that I should hurry up and perform CPR, how come you actually skipped directly to doing an autopsy?"
"That's right – how can I do an autopsy..." Stunned by his question, Doctor Eli stood there frozen for a long time, before suddenly launching into a profound introspection and self-reflection with a heavy heart, "I've gone too far! I actually forgot the oath we made when we first enrolled in medical school, I'm such a heartless medical practitioner..."
"It's not that bad, our oath says that we are to remove sickness and pain from people and help them maintain their perfect health. He can't be considered a human after all, so you are still safe for the time being." Patting him on the shoulder, he reassured his old classmate who was caught in an infinite cycle of self-condemnation. Doctor Shang turned to enter the room and was greeted by the smiling gaze of the vampire.
"You heard everything?" Knowing about the vampire's sense of hearing, Shang Haojia did not feel surprised. Cleaning up the things on the table, he skillfully put the two little dragons into his pocket.
The two little dragons were obviously long accustomed to such a game, and Xian Bei no longer felt afraid, leaping around him and playing. The two fathers on the sofa could not help but stare in amazement.
"I do occasionally struggle quite a bit from the overly exceptional hearing – This time, though, I certainly felt very lucky and elated." Wei Long replied with a smile. With a touch to his chest, like magic, he pulled out a piece of black cloth. The golden dragon, who was still unable to move on his own, was bundled up, and he helped the fire dragon put the bundle over his shoulder, "My dearest friend – in fact, even if you can't resist the urge to give me CPR even now, I believe there should be no ventilators here..."
"Stop it – Hurry up, people should be calling security soon." Although the vampire's hint was subtle, Doctor Shang undoubtedly picked up on it. Unable to resist a light cough, his face unconsciously blushed as he forced himself to calmly change the subject, "In all seriousness, I think you have already interacted with a lot of humans, do you have to forcibly erase their memories every time you're discovered?"
"In fact, all of the races that have managed to survive in the human metropolis have found ways to live in harmony with humans or have simply evolved certain special instincts. One of the most common of these is the technique known as 'mimicry'." Watching the fire dragon flap its bony wings and soar into the sky, Wei Long only smiled as he wrapped the human doctor in his arms. Skillfully adjusting the position of his embrace, he leapt lightly up to the edge of the window and carried him into the darkening night, "Humans have discovered mimicry in the form of dead-leaf butterflies, chameleons, and the like, but that's only the lowest form of mimicry. Like those dragons, they are able to change form directly in the eyes of humans – they don't need to deliberately transform into something else in the eyes of ordinary people. The Chinese divine dragons are usually seen as a cloud of mist, and as for the fire dragons, they usually transform into something such as spherical lightning that humans can explain by using scientific theories."
"On this basis, I'll see news tomorrow about the spherical lightning that smashed our school and how the PhD student survived, is that right..." The weather was a little cooler after the rain, and there was a mobile refrigeration-style air conditioner at his side. Shang Haojia couldn't help but tighten his clothes, when his body was suddenly wrapped in a large black cloak.
"My dear friend, you are absolutely right." Standing on a rooftop, the vampire lifted his knee to steady the fragile human in his arms. Wrapping the cloak around him with one hand, he smiled as he held the hand that was about to refuse, "As for those of us who can neither mimic nor be completely invisible, we usually choose to hide ourselves with some kind of equipment. For example, this cloak allows us to turn into a black mist – of course, it can also provide some warmth. So, my dear friend, perhaps it is a little less than aesthetically pleasing, but bear with it for a while, as once we arrive home, it will no longer matter."
The cloak was made of a strange material. Silky and light to the touch, yet extremely soft and warm on the body, it was as if even the vampire's otherwise cold embrace had been infused with a strange warmth.
Shang Haojia's entire body was covered by the cloak, and all he could see was darkness. All he could hear was the sound of the vampire's wine-like, mellow and elegant voice, which had a powerful and mysterious allure capable of pulling one into the dangerous but enchanting darkness.
After working through the night, he had spent the whole day running back and forth. Doctor Shang was going to ask the vampire why he didn't get this treatment the last time he was carried, but he couldn't help but be led by that voice. With a very light yawn, he couldn't help but close his eyes.
"Don't worry, my dear friend – there will be no more injuries and no need for impromptu overtime now. All you need to do now is relax so that your body and soul are fully rested..." The vampire smiled lightly and spoke softly, and, because he could not be seen by the other, dropped a soft kiss on his forehead through the cloak, "Sleep, my doctor..."
