The Same Fate Awaits All Sins Chapter 77

Final Part – 18

Accompanied by the piercing sound of police sirens and the clatter of hurried footsteps, the backup units arrived at the scene. Although the sheer scale of the underground drug manufacturing factory took everyone by surprise, the seasoned officers remained composed, methodically handling the aftermath.

Gu Yanta and Chang Le were unscathed, save for being covered in dirt and grime, so they politely declined Jiang Ziyu's offer to take them to the hospital.

As Gu Yanta finally stepped out of the cold, damp underground facility and into the sunlight, a profound sense of surviving a disaster washed over him.

At that moment, his gaze swept across the crowd and immediately locked onto the one figure who had occupied his thoughts throughout his despair and struggle, Lu Zheng! A surge of blood rushed to Gu Yanta's head. Hadn't we agreed that Lu Zheng would stay at the rear command? This place was beyond dangerous, and I almost died. Lu Zheng, that reckless brat!

Gu Yanta charged forward, disregarding his dishevelled appearance, and landed a punch on Lu Zheng's shoulder. For the first time in his life, he lost control of his emotions and roared at Lu Zheng, "You brat! Didn't I tell you not to come?"

Lu Zheng winced in pain, clutching his shoulder. He looked up and met Gu Yanta's eyes, which were radiating anger, and he said as calmly as ever. "I'm fine, aren't I? What's there to be angry about?"

"Do you have any idea how dangerous it was? What if..." Gu Yanta's words caught in his throat, his voice choking up. He had always been a tough, unyielding man who rarely displayed emotion, but after surviving such an ordeal, standing before the person he cared for the most, he couldn't stop his eyes from turning red.

"Alright, alright..." Lu Zheng pulled Gu Yanta into a firm embrace. "You're fine now, and that's all that matters. Don't think about anything else..."

Gu Yanta broke free from Lu Zheng's embrace and wiped his face. "Get off me, why are you making me look like some blushing bride..."

"You pretty much are..." Lu Zheng couldn't help but let a smirk tug at the corner of his lips.

"Lu Xiaozheng, just you wait, we'll settle this properly in bed tonight!" Gu Yanta shot him a glare as he climbed into the car.

Suddenly, the sharp screech of brakes rang out from outside. Both Gu Yanta and Lu Zheng instinctively turned their heads, only to see Chen Chen sprinting out of a car with its door still swinging open, while Chang Le stood not far away, grinning foolishly...

The drug cartel that had plagued Xia County for over twenty years was finally taken down. The ringleader, Mu Jie, was shot dead on the spot, and Ma Xiangrong was captured in the basement of Mu Jie's villa. Faced with the overwhelming physical and testimonial evidence that Chang Le had spent years collecting, Ma Xiangrong quickly confessed to his crimes over the past two decades and his tangled past with Mu Jie.

All illicit funds and contraband from the underground drug factory were confiscated by the police, and the dark cloud that had loomed over the people of Xia County for so many years was finally lifted...

Jiang Ziyu made a great contribution and firmly established his leadership among his subordinates. From now on, he would remain in Xia County to preside over the work of the criminal investigation team.

As for Chen Chen, he had no choice but to begrudgingly squeeze into the car with Gu Yanta and Lu Zheng for the journey back to Yuchuan.

Gu Yanta glanced at Chen Chen and immediately caught the reluctant gaze he cast towards Chang Le. In an instant, he understood everything, and he gave Chen Chen a knowing look.

"Don't worry," Gu Yanta said. "Chang Le's transfer request has already been submitted. Xia County took Old Jiang from us, I have to make up for the loss somehow, don't I?"

"Really?" Chen Chen's eyes lit up in an instant.

"Bullshit! We still need a deputy captain, don't we?" Gu Yanta rolled his eyes at Chen Chen. "Look at you, acting so hopeless!!"

"Thank you, organisation, for solving my personal problems!" Chen Chen was overjoyed, as long as he didn't have to endure a long-distance relationship, he didn't mind looking a little pathetic!

Lu Zheng chuckled softly from the side. "What about Comrade Yu Tiantian? Isn't she still waiting for you to sort out your 'personal problems' with her?"

"Consultant Lu, please spare me!" Chen Chen wailed. "I've always treated her like a little sister! Don't go around making things up! I don't even like girls!"

"And who was it that said they wouldn't be polite if someone kept trying to pair them up with Ma Qin, claiming they were straight!?" Gu Yanta teased.

"I..." Chen Chen was utterly embarrassed. "Isn't that just a casual remark? Besides, who would want to be paired up with someone who doesn't even have a brain? That'd be an insult to my intelligence!"

"Hahaha..."

The three of them laughed and joked for a while before their conversation shifted back to the case at hand.

"To be honest, if it hadn't been for the personal feud between Mu Jie and Ma Xiangrong, we might not have been able to take them down in one go," Chen Chen remarked. "Who would've thought that someone as shrewd as Ma Xiangrong would end up falling at the hands of the very person he had mentored?"

"No matter how clever he was, it didn't matter. The net of justice is vast and wide, nothing can escape it. As long as you choose the path of crime, the final destination will always be the same!" Gu Yanta looked into the distance with a firm gaze as he grasped Lu Zheng's hand.

Lu Zheng turned to look at him, his eyes extraordinarily bright.

The car sped along the straight highway, and before they knew it, they had crossed into Yuchuan's territory. Ahead lay even more dangerous crimes waiting to be fought. But they firmly believed that for all criminals, there was only one ultimate fate, justice under the law!

(The End.)
