In the distance, the escort vehicle from the S Province bureau was approaching slowly. Suddenly, the vehicle swerved sharply, speeding towards the farmland beside the road!

"Go after them!" Gu Yanta shouted. "Notify Ma Qin to intercept them from the opposite direction!"

The shrill wail of police sirens tore through the night sky as five police cars and a police transport vehicle engaged in a high-speed chase down a narrow country road!

"Stop! You are surrounded! If you don't stop, we will open fire!" Gu Yanta's voice rang out through the loudspeaker.

In the distance, more sirens blared as flashing red and blue police lights rapidly closed in. Yet the transport vehicle showed no sign of stopping, it only accelerated, charging forward with full force!

"Ma Qin! Watch out! They're going to break through!" Gu Yanta shouted into the radio. "All units, attention! Open fire!"

Da-da-da-da! A burst of gunfire tore through the air, shattering the transport vehicle's windscreen into countless fragments.

"Aim for the tyres!" No sooner had Gu Yanta given the order than the vehicle's left rear tyre let out a sharp hiss, deflating at a speed visible to the naked eye...

Damn it! Gu Yanta glanced at Shenyu Lake beside the road, his heart tightening in fear. If that vehicle went over the edge, Zheng Yandong wouldn't make it out alive!

In a split-second decision, Gu Yanta wrenched the steering wheel and slammed the accelerator to the floor, forcing his car up alongside the transport vehicle. "Screeeech—" The two vehicles collided, making a deafening screech of metal-on-metal... They skidded for dozens of metres before finally grinding to a halt!

Immediately, all police vehicles swarmed in, surrounding the transport vehicle. Officers leapt out of their cars, weapons raised, eyes vigilantly locked on the transport vehicle.

Gu Yanta's car door had been crushed out of shape, so he scrambled out through the passenger side. He rushed to the transport vehicle and yanked the door open. "Don't move! Hands up!"

The interior was pitch-black, silent as death. Gu Yanta stepped forward and shoved the driver's shoulder. The man slumped sideways and tumbled out of the vehicle...

It was too dark for Gu Yanta to tell whether the man on the ground was injured. He crouched down and reached out to check for a pulse, he was alive! Gu Yanta instantly let out a breath of relief.

Just then, Ma Qin's flashlight beamed over, illuminating the man's face. Everyone finally saw him clearly, it was Zheng Yandong!

The two officers responsible for escorting the prisoner were nowhere to be seen...

Ma Qin's eyes widened like brass bells. "Boss! This..."

"Get him to the hospital first!" Gu Yanta's face sank. "Make sure security is tight! This Zheng Yandong is no ordinary man!"

"Yes, sir!"

By the time Gu Yanta dragged his exhausted body back to the municipal bureau, it was nearly dawn.

As soon as he stepped into his office, he saw Lu Zheng fast asleep lying on his desk, the stack of documents issued by Chen Chen regarding the group under his hand. Gu Yanta didn't have the heart to wake him. He gently walked over and draped his coat over Lu Zheng's shoulders before settling onto the sofa himself, intending to get some rest.

Zheng Yandong had already been taken to the hospital. He was not seriously harmed and, barring any complications, could be interrogated the next morning. The two officers who had been escorting him were found in the men's restroom at the Hukou toll station. According to their account, one of them had stepped out to use the facilities when someone suddenly struck him on the back of the head. When he failed to return, the other officer instructed the driver to lock the vehicle doors before going to check, only to be ambushed in the same manner. Both were dragged into the furthest stall and locked inside, where they remained until a cleaner came in to retrieve supplies and discovered them. As for the driver of the transport vehicle, Zheng Yandong had knocked him out with a pair of handcuffs and left him in the bushes. After that, Zheng Yandong used tools from inside the vehicle to free himself and drove away. By the time the police arrived, the person who had helped him attack the officers was long gone...

But what Zheng Yandong never expected was that the Yuchuan police would intercept him midway. Forced into a corner, he had no choice but to break through the blockade, only to end up captured in the end.

Gu Yanta's arm had sustained a few scrapes during the operation. He had received a quick bandage at the hospital, but by now, he was utterly drained. As soon as he lay down on the sofa, he quickly drifted off to sleep.

Gu Yanta slept through the night without dreams. When he opened his eyes, Lu Zheng was already gone. He sat up abruptly, noticing the coat draped over him. Just as the call connected, Gu Yanta heard a familiar ringtone from the doorway. A moment later, Lu Zheng pushed the door open and walked in, carrying his favourite breakfast – jianbing guozi with five extra eggs.

"Calm down, I didn't disappear, just went out to get you some breakfast," Lu Zheng said, setting the food down in front of Gu Yanta. "Eat it while it's hot."

Gu Yanta rubbed his temples and took a sip of soy milk. "Ai, no, I haven't even brushed my teeth!"

After some clattering about, Gu Yanta returned to the office carrying his toiletries bag.

Lu Zheng was sitting on the sofa, one leg crossed over the other, sipping tea. Seeing Gu Yanta walk in, he set down his thermos and said, "It's already cold, you could've just eaten first and washed up after. It's not like I'd mind..."

"That won't do, what if I suddenly feel like kissing you?" Gu Yanta grinned.

"Here we go again..." Lu Zheng didn't even lift his eyelids. "Aren't you worried that your jianbing breath will suffocate me?"

"Haha..." Gu Yanta took a bite of his 'love-infused' jianbing. "I'm just messing with you."

Lu Zheng shook his head helplessly. "Let's talk seriously, I heard about the incident with Zheng Yandong."

"Mm..." Gu Yanta mumbled vaguely. "Someone helped him escape, but Zheng Yandong was still the one who carried it out. I caught him myself."
