The Same Fate Awaits All Sins Chapter 49

Mind Control – 05
After dinner, the two of them strolled along the small path, dragging their feet as they slowly made their way to the entrance of the residential complex.
Gu Yanta lifted his leg to step inside, but Lu Zheng stopped in his tracks.
"It's still early, why are you in such a rush to go home?" Lu Zheng grumbled. "The weather is so cool, shouldn't we take a walk to help with digestion..."
"There are many ways to aid digestion..." Gu Yanta smirked mischievously and hooked his arm around Lu Zheng's. "Walking isn't the only option, we can do it at home too! And with more intensity, it's even better for digestion."
"You... What goes on in your head all day?!" Lu Zheng shoved Gu Yanta's arm away, his face darkening. "No way! I'm not going home right now! I need to clear my mind in the breeze and sort through today's clues!"
"Sort through what? Go home, and I'll give you something better to sort out!" Gu Yanta grabbed Lu Zheng's arm and pulled him towards the residential complex.
"Get lost!" Lu Zheng instantly caught the hidden meaning in Gu Yanta's words, his face flushing at the memory of last night. Furious and embarrassed, he snapped, "Can't you be serious for once?"
"What's serious? Can you eat it?" Gu Yanta shamelessly retorted.
They bickered and tussled all the way to Lu Zheng's door. Just as Lu Zheng pulled out his keys to unlock it, Gu Yanta pinned him against the door in a classic "kabedon" stance, blocking his way inside and insisting that he come to his place instead.
"Let go!"
"Nope!"
The two remained in a stalemate until footsteps echoed in the hallway, it was the aunt from the sixth floor, returning from her square dance session. Seeing the scene before her, she assumed the two young men were fighting and hurried over to pull the two apart.
"You boys! Talk things out properly! You're neighbours! How can you resort to fighting?" The aunt struggled to pull Gu Yanta's arm.
Lu Zheng was mortified. He lowered his voice and hissed, "Let go! This is so embarrassing!"
Gu Yanta's arm didn't budge, and he spoke to the aunt with a smile, "Auntie, we're not fighting! Can't you tell? We're dating!"
"Oh my! Young man, aren't you the least bit embarrassed saying something like that? What kind of relationship can two grown men have!" The auntie exclaimed in shock.
"Exactly! Auntie is absolutely right, you have no shame at all!" Lu Zheng, unable to break free, quickly nodded in agreement upon hearing her words.
"Why can't two men be together? Auntie, watch closely..." Gu Yanta winked at the aunt, then turned his head and kissed Lu Zheng on the lips.
Before Lu Zheng could even react, Gu Yanta's strong masculine scent enveloped him. Though his mouth said no, his body instinctively responded. His face turned red from his cheeks to the tips of his ears at a speed visible to the naked eye. As their lips and tongues intertwined, Lu Zheng's breathing gradually grew heavier...
"Oh dear! You young people these days..." Seeing the scene, the aunt quickly covered her eyes and scurried upstairs. "See no evil, see no evil..."
The moonlight was intoxicating, and their figures entwined in the darkened corridor. Feeling Lu Zheng's breath growing increasingly heated, Gu Yanta deepened the kiss, thoroughly exploring every inch of Lu Zheng's mouth with fervour.
"So sweet!" The lingering kiss lasted a long time before Gu Yanta finally lifted his head. Supporting Lu Zheng's weakened waist in his arms, he gazed at Lu Zheng's lips, now flushed from the intensity of the kiss, and chuckled softly. "Well? Lu Xiaozheng? Will you come home with me now?"
"Mm..." Lu Zheng, feeling lightheaded, agreed without a second thought.
Having achieved his goal, Gu Yanta contentedly opened the door to his apartment. Lu Xiaozheng ah, Lu Xiaozheng! Someone like you, who says no but means yes, can't be persuaded with words, you have to be shown!
The next morning at seven a.m., the alarm rang right on time. Lu Zheng groaned, rubbing a certain sore spot on his body, and once again found himself grinding his teeth in hatred at the man sleeping soundly beside him.
"Quickly get up!" Lu Zheng shoved Gu Yanta, then climbed out of bed to find his pants. This time, he was extra careful identifying them, he was not going to wear the wrong ones again!
"Mhmm..." Gu Yanta stretched lazily and sleepily glanced at the clock. "Shit! It's already past seven!"
Gu Yanta leapt out of bed in a flash, threw on his clothes in a matter of seconds, and checked his phone, there were already five missed calls from Chen Chen!
"Damn it!" Gu Yanta quickly dialled back.
Before Gu Yanta could even say a word, Chen Chen's furious voice blasted through the receiver. "Boss! What the hell?! I've called you a million times!"
"Alright, alright... I got it, I'll be there right away!" Gu Yanta bolted into the bathroom like a whirlwind, only for a wretched "Ah~~~" to follow.
Lu Zheng rolled his eyes dramatically from the side...
City bureau.
Gu Yanta dragged Lu Zheng and strode into the forensic department's autopsy room. The acting head of the forensic department, Xing Fei, had been temporarily transferred from the Haibei Sub-Bureau. A formidable woman in her forties, she sported voluminous wavy curls and dressed fashionably on a daily basis. Judging by her appearance alone, no one would have guessed that she spent her days dealing with corpses.
At that moment, Xing Fei's expression was grave. Seeing Gu Yanta enter, she finally flipped open the autopsy report at hand. "Captain Gu, this case is quite serious..."
"What is it, Sister Xing?" Gu Yanta asked. "Don't tell me there's an issue with the cause of death for these three people..."
"It's not just the cause of death that's in question..." Xing Fei replied. "What's even more bizarre is that during the autopsy, we discovered that all three deceased individuals were missing certain organs!"
"What?!" Gu Yanta's expression changed instantly. "What's going on?"
"The male deceased and the elderly female deceased were both missing their left kidneys, while the young female deceased was missing her right kidney and a portion of her small intestine!" Xing Fei pointed at the three corpses on the autopsy table in turn. "Judging by the state of the wounds, this likely occurred around three months ago."
"This is a huge matter! Why didn't Ren'ai Hospital disclose this properly?!" Gu Yanta snapped.
"I checked their medical records. All three deceased were admitted after overdosing on sleeping pills. Due to the urgency of resuscitation, there was no time for a full-body examination. Before administering emergency treatment, the hospital did consult with the deceased's families, but the families were unaware of this issue." Xing Fei flipped open Ren'ai Hospital's records. "Look, it's clearly written here that the deceased later died of respiratory failure due to an unexpected failure of the ventilator caused by equipment malfunction."
"But the autopsy results contradict that. Of the three, only the elderly woman died of respiratory failure. The other two died of acute renal failure!" Xing Fei continued. "In other words, this wasn't due to some equipment failure, it was an error in either the hospital's treatment methods or medication during the resuscitation process! Because the deceased's organs were incomplete, it's highly likely that using the standard dosage for a healthy person could have led to such an outcome!"
"In other words... the ventilator failure was most likely just a smokescreen. Ren'ai Hospital deliberately hid the truth from the deceased's families. If the families hadn't insisted on calling the police and requesting an autopsy, this whole matter might have been brushed under the rug!" Gu Yanta slammed the table, his fury evident.
Lu Zheng stood to the side, arms crossed, remaining silent from start to finish. His brows were tightly furrowed as he pondered something.
"Cheng Yu?! Could he know something?" Gu Yanta pulled out his phone, ready to dial. "He told me personally that all three deceased died because the ventilators stopped working. As the attending physician, he can't escape responsibility!"
Suddenly, Lu Zheng pressed down on Gu Yanta's hand. "Don't rush to conclusions just yet, let's hear what Chen Chen has to say first!"
Only then did Gu Yanta calm down. He picked up the autopsy report and walked out of the forensic lab.
The atmosphere in the team's office was oppressively heavy.
Chen Chen saw the storm brewing on Gu Yanta's face and didn't dare to breathe.
"Based on the clues we obtained yesterday, I conducted a technical restoration on the deceased's phones," Chen Chen reported in a methodical tone. "At exactly noon on September third, all three deceased received a text message from an unknown number."
"The message contained the numbers 3714 4623 7756 7963, a meaningless string of digits. I checked the sender, it was transmitted via a spoofed base station, making it untraceable. In other words, not only did these three receive it, but potentially thousands of others as well."
"But only these three chose to commit suicide." Gu Yanta's frown deepened. "Could they have actually known each other?"
"During the phone restoration, our tech team discovered that all three had joined the same QQ group at some point," Chen Chen said, turning on the projector. The deceased's chat records appeared on the large screen. "This one right here."
"Suicide Enthusiasts Hub?" Gu Yanta read the group name aloud.
"Right." Chen Chen nodded. "However, all three left the group on September second, so I wasn't able to retrieve the chat history after that."
"What about the earlier chat records?" Gu Yanta asked.
"They were completely wiped," Chen Chen replied. "We're working on recovering them, but it'll take some time."
"Okay!" Gu Yanta nodded. "Now we've found the link between them. The next step is figuring out how to dig deeper!"
