Controlled Experiment Chapter 64

Two Missing One – 14
"In the early hours of this morning, Wang Zhe, a wealthy businessman from Huan Island, was found dead inside a box truck parked in the Guangming Road residential area. The scene was reportedly horrific. It is said that the Huan Island Police Department was unaware of the incident, and as of the time of publication, no officials had yet arrived on scene..."
The news anchor on the television stood with her back to the truck at the crime scene, just a short distance away. Holding a professional microphone, she was vividly describing everything to the camera.
Du Yusheng picked up a piece of pre-sliced fruit from the table and popped it into his mouth, then switched the channel with an expressionless face.
Seated on the opposite side of the sofa, He Shen glanced at him and rolled his eyes, "Master Du, this... is quite a spectacle... what do you intend to do?"
Du Yusheng scratched his face. In He Shen's eyes, this guy looked like he was deliberately asking for a slap.
"I'm not trying to do anything..." Du Yusheng grabbed some imported grapes and stuffed them into his mouth. "I just made a call to the newspaper and gave them a juicy tip-off. As for the report... I didn't force them to run it, they did it themselves, that's got nothing to do with me."
He Shen snatched the grapes out of Du Yusheng's hand, his expression unusually stern. The latter paused for a second, Du Yusheng knew that He Shen was angry now.
"You want to ask whether this tycoon Wang Zhe they're talking about on the news was killed by me?"
He Shen nodded slightly. "You're hiding out in my apartment, I need to know whether I'm harbouring a murderer."
Du Yusheng smiled faintly. "When I gave the tip-off, I did tell the reporter that Wang Zhe had died in that truck, I didn't expect them to run with it without verifying anything."
Saying that, Du Yusheng snatched the grapes back and stuffed one into his mouth, his cheeks puffing slightly as he pushed it to one side and laughed, "Actually, if you think about it, it's kind of funny. Xiao Bai and the others arrived at the scene only to find that there was no sign of Wang Zhe's corpse, just like the reporter claimed. They must be wondering right now, where the hell did the body go?"
He Shen only half-understood what Du Yusheng was saying, but he more or less grasped one thing, Du Yusheng wasn't a murderer.
At least not right now.
Du Yusheng scratched his nose again and added, "Actually, apart from Xiao Bai and the others, there's someone else who saw the news and is also wondering where the body's gone..."
The man who looked exactly like Li Yao.
Du Yusheng glanced at He Shen and said, "Do you remember that virtual address you tracked down? Send it a message now."
"Welcome to my game."
In the past, I was always the one chasing you, and you toyed with me. This time, let's see what happens when you come looking for me, and I'm the one playing you.
Twenty minutes later, after waiting all that time, Du Yusheng finally received a reply. This time, unusually, it was in Chinese, and clearly meant specifically for him.
There was just a single, short sentence.
"Hello, Du Yusheng."

Li Yao also saw the news about Wang Zhe's death.
At that time, Li Yao had just come out of surgery. In the break room, his colleagues were gathered around watching the television. For doctors who had just finished a physically draining operation, the main concern was getting something to eat, the television was just background noise. Li Yao watched the broadcast on the screen, then wordlessly changed his clothes and left the hospital.
He walked into the underground parking garage and didn't take out his phone until he had started the car and was about to drive home.
The first call, naturally, was to Du Yusheng, and as expected, the phone was switched off.
Then, Li Yao took a deep breath. After a brief pause, he realised that calling Xiao Bai at this moment wouldn't be a wise move. A few seconds later, he made a second call, this one to Qi Lei.
Obviously, Qi Lei didn't sleep.
Surprisingly, he sounded very alert on the other end of the line.
"You have a television over there?" Li Yao asked.
Qi Lei let out a strange laugh and said, "I know exactly why you're calling, the moment I saw the news, I had people look into it, Wang Zhe really has gone missing."
Li Yao felt his heart skip a beat.
"Brother, I've got a few connections in the police force," Qi Lei went on. "I heard that those who have been closely following Wang Zhe all swear that Du Yusheng came to see them and even contacted Wang Zhe under the pretext of investigating a case. But never mind the business with that rich man Wang Zhe, and I'm not even going to get into whatever's going on with Du Yusheng. There's one thing I absolutely have to tell you."
"Li Yao, you're wanted."
