S.C.I Mystery Series Volume 3 Chapter 136

Mad Doctor Murderer 31 – A New Beginning

When Zhan Zhao and Bai Yutang led the SCI crowd together to the address that Bao Zheng had told them for the operating theatre, they were all a little staggered.

They arrived at none other than Mad Doctor Town.

"Last time we investigated this town, there was nowhere suitable for an operation, right?" Bai Yutang was puzzled.

"You searched above ground, but not below."

Bao Zheng led the crowd into a very inconspicuous storage room, pressed a mechanism that was extremely well hidden, and the entire floor opened up.

"A basement?" Bai Yutang squatted down and looked at the structure, "So advanced?"

Bao Zheng smiled faintly, "The lower part will be even more of an eye-opener for you."

Bai Jintang walked down the stairs along with Gongsun and looked around, realising that the basement and the surface were simply two different worlds. The basement was very clean, with section after section of pure white passageways and sterilising UV lights, making it look like the interior design of some kind of space capsule.

The crowd followed Bao Zheng forward through the long hallway. Bai Yutang found a number of emergency doors and alarm devices installed all around, as well as 360-degree surveillance equipment, and couldn't help but frown, "This stuff costs a lot of money, doesn't it?"

Bao Zheng smiled faintly, "It can also resist natural disasters such as magnitude eight earthquakes, floods, lightning strikes and so on, it's very cool! And with a life-pod design on the outside, it can also float on water, and the steel plates and plexiglass are highly impact resistant."

"Can this thing be driven?" Zhao Hu bristled, "If it could be driven, wouldn't it be the same as Noah's Ark? How about we make a few more and sell tickets?"

Everyone knew he was joking, but Bai Jintang looked around and seriously considered whether he should get one too, so that if something did happen in the future, he could hide from it.

As he was thinking seriously, he was poked in the side of his head by Gongsun, "Don't think nonsense!"

Zhan Zhao and Bai Yutang, who were walking ahead of him, looked at each other and smiled – Brother was really thinking about it.

Finally, the group stopped in front of an airtight door, which required them to wear protective clothing and sterilise their bodies before entering.

"What is this place?” Zhan Zhao was a little confused in his protective suit, "A factory that produces biochemical weapons?"

"It's a ward." Bao Zheng opened the last door and the crowd was shocked by the sight behind it.

What appeared in front of them was a glass wall, behind which, it expanded one floor downwards. The crowd went to the wall and looked down... A clean, bright operating room appeared in front of them, with all the latest and greatest equipment.

In the middle of the operating room, on a super-sized bed, lay a man. The man was enclosed in an isolation hood with cold air flowing around him, probably cryogenically frozen. A whole set of machines were whirring next to him, and there were many screens on the other side, showing his blood pressure and other various vital indicators.

Gongsun's mouth was open wide and he was leaning against the glass wall, looking like a child seeing an amusement park for the first time. Zhan Zhao and Bai Yutang subconsciously looked at Bai Jintang... Sure enough, Brother Bai's eyes were full of – Get one for Gongsun too! Get one! Get one...

"Who's that inside?" Bai Yutang asked Bao Zheng curiously.

Bao Zheng reached out and pointed.

The crowd looked over in the direction of his finger and saw that Bao Zheng was pointing across the room.

Bobby was there, sitting handcuffed in a wheelchair, with a few people standing around him.

Qiu Yiwen, or Hao Ling, who had had a facelift and forgotten her past, was standing there, standing beside him, staring curiously at the person in the isolation box.

The head of the isolation box was facing her, and it was glass, so she could see the face of the person inside.

And what surprised Bai Yutang and the others the most was that – Lan Xi had come too, and he was not wearing a protective suit, but surgical clothes.

He even had his head shaved, and Ma Xin was drawing his blood, as if she was running some kind of test.

Gongsun was stunned for a moment, “No way..." After speaking, he hurried downstairs.

Yang Fan followed him and was also surprised.

"What's wrong?" Bai Jintang was puzzled, and Bai Yutang and Zhan Zhao both frowned.

"Look." Ma Han called back to the crowd.

They saw that Lan Xi had finished his tests by now and walked into the operating theatre, laying on a bed next to the man’s.

Both Ma Xin and Hao Ling walked in. The two began to make preparations for the operation, while Lan Xi was obviously preparing for a blood transfusion.

"No way!" Bai Yutang was startled.

"Bobby's last operation is to save Lan Qi!" Zhan Zhao also found it unbelievable, but it was the only possible hypothesis now.

The crowd quickly went outside the operating room and waited anxiously...

Soon after, the isolation hood, which had been closed for a long time, opened up as Yang Fan and the others walked in.

The crowd also finally saw the real face of the person undergoing this operation – it was a man in a surgical gown, who appeared very young. There were many tubes attached to his upper body, scars all over his skin, and traces of different coloured skin spliced together. However, the doctor was clearly skilled in medicine and there was hardly any abruptness to be seen.

Looking at his face again, Zhan Zhao and Bai Yutang immediately recalled what they had seen that day at Lan Xi's home, a picture of Lan Qi – he was only slightly thinner than at that time, after all, after three years of lying still, it was completely understandable that there was a certain degree of muscle atrophy.

"Is he alive?" Zhao Hu squinted and half-crouched, keeping his eyes level through the glass with Lan Qi, who was lying on the bed, and whose chest was indeed currently rising and falling slightly.

“He's really alive!" Bai Chi and Jiang Ping were both excited.

Gongsun stood by the operating room and set up a tripod to put the camera on, aiming it at an angle and muttering over and over, "A miracle! A miracle!"

And at this time, Hao Ling didn't know what was going on, but her hand couldn't hold the scalpel steadily and she was unconsciously shaking a bit...

Zhan Zhao frowned slightly, "Instinctive reaction."

"What do you mean?" Bai Yutang looked at Zhan Zhao in confusion.

"Bobby physically blocked Hao Ling's memories, but there's something that can't be blocked." Zhan Zhao whispered, "Especially seeing the biggest source of stimulation."

"Source of stimulation?" Bai Yutang thought for a moment, "The one that made Hao Ling abnormal back then was Lan Qi, so Lan Qi was her biggest source of stimulation. Isn't it true that Hao Ling can actually feel it all, like sadness, longing... but can't transmit it to her brain? Neither can she react on her own."

"Exactly!" Zhan Zhao nodded, patting Bai Yutang approvingly as he did so.

Bai Yutang raised an eyebrow and smiled.

The crowd all looked at the two.

Bai Chi couldn't help but ask, "Brother, aren't you guys nervous?"

Bai Yutang and Zhan Zhao looked at each other, puzzled, "Nervous about what?"

"Hao Ling looks like she can't perform the surgery at all, what should we do? Should we hire another doctor temporarily?"

Zhan Zhao smiled, "Hao Ling can't do it, but there is someone who wants to do it and is eager to do it, now isn't there?"

The crowd turned around to see Gongsun's eyes glowing as he received the scalpel.

"Hey." Zhao Hu lowered his voice and asked the crowd, "Has Gongsun ever cut open a living person?"

"It is logical that forensic medicine has to study the same clinical medicine courses as the medical faculty, besides, doesn't Gongsun have many degrees?" Zhan Zhao rubbed his chin and pondered, "In terms of skill, mental capacity and calmness, Gongsun is perfectly capable of being a perverted doctor! No, a very good surgeon, but experience-wise?..."

"Don't worry, he's cut open a living person."

As soon as Bai Jintang's words fell, the crowd's eyes widened in shock.

Bai Yutang opened his mouth, "You guys aren't playing some dangerous game, are you? Dissection is against the law!"

Bai Jintang had a surprised look on his face, "Really?"

Bai Yutang's mouth opened a few inches wider, "Of course!"

Bai Jintang was silent for a long time, then nodded and turned back to the twins, "Throw that fat rat away."

"Big Brother!" The twins shook their heads firmly, "You're letting Qi Qi go? Gongsun is going to go berserk!"

"What Qi Qi?" Zhan Zhao wondered.

"It's the chinchilla that Gongsun keeps in his room! It's a chinchilla not a rat!" Bai Chi did not forget to turn around and correct Bai Jintang.

Bai Jintang looked at Bai Yutang, "The one with two incisors."

Bai Yutang nodded seriously, "Oh, that's a rat."

Bai Chi was so anxious that he stomped his feet.

Zhan Zhao asked him the point, "What happened with the dissection?"

"Brother speaks so frighteningly." Bai Chi hurriedly explained, "That day, Gongsun saw a chinchilla sitting in a cardboard box, dying, on the roadside and picked it up. He gave the chinchilla a thorough examination and found that it had a benign tumour and was having an allergic reaction to drugs. Presumably the chinchilla was originally a domestic pet and was sent to the doctor because it was unwell due to the tumour. He was given random medication by some quack, which eventually led to him becoming allergic to the medication. The person who kept him thought he was dead, so he threw him on the roadside.

Zhan Zhao frowned, "So what does it have to do with dissection?"

"Gongsun had originally picked it up because he wanted to find out if it was better to die immediately or due to old age, so he took advantage of it to do a dissection before it died, not expecting that it could be cured. He ended up performing a tumour removal surgery and gave him half an aspirin, and the allergy and fever were also cured." Bai Jintang replied, "So that rat stayed at home."

The corners of Zhan Zhao and Bai Yutang's mouths twitched together – oh yes, another chinchilla!

"What's that chinchilla's name?" Zhan Zhao asked, “Qi Qi?"

"Gongsun Bai Qi!" Bai Jintang replied helpfully, ”Nickname is Qi Qi."

Zhan Zhao then saw Bai Yutang's eyelids twitch with conscience, and the crowd proceeded to hold their foreheads.

"It's starting."

At this point, Bao Zheng reached out and pointed inside, and the operation began.

Bobby acted as the guide, Yang Fan and Gongsun performed the operation, Ma Xin and Zhao Qin acted as nurses, and Chen Yin was in charge of the machines and data.

The others sat outside the operating room and waited.

It was very quiet outside, and little by little the time passed... In the silent space, only a low 'click, click' sound could be heard.

Zhan Zhao turned and noticed that it was Ma Han who was subconsciously playing with the lighter in his hand.

Zhan Zhao stared at the lighter, which was hand-carved, and the workmanship was extremely refined. This kind of lighter was very expensive, and purely handmade ones were rare and unique.

"The lighter is very special." Zhan Zhao asked Ma Han, "Did you make it yourself?"

Ma Han looked back, "Someone else gave it to me."

"Chen Jiayi?" Zhan Zhao had a rare moment of gossip.

Bai Yutang looked back. Zhan Zhao wouldn't gossip about such things, and Bai Yutang knew that he had always cared about the lighter in Ma Han's hand. In addition, during the previous difficult sniping mission, Ma Han successfully completed the mission, and while everyone was happy, Zhan Zhao seemed to have some doubts.

Ma Han shook his head. At this time, there seemed to be some kind of situation in the operating room, and everyone was tense. Because of the atmosphere, it was not convenient for Zhan Zhao to ask any more questions, but he was rather concerned – the bullet piercing the lighter, this pattern, did it have any symbolic meaning?

......

They waited at the door of the operating theatre for an unknown amount of time, all of them taking turns to play and have a meal. When there was nothing left to talk about, they saw the door of the operating room open.

Everyone came out. In the room, it was just Lan Qi lying in the room that had been transformed from an operating table to a hospital bed, accompanied by Lan Xi with an excited face.

Gongsun, Yang Fan and the others walked out, not looking tired at all, but rather very excited.

Zhan Zhao and the others gathered around and were told that the operation had been a great success and that Lan Qi would make a complete recovery. Of course, there would be some physical rehabilitation, but it would not take him long to start his life again.

Bobby was handcuffed and took one last look at Hao Ling who was standing by Lan Qi's bed, watching him curiously. Before he left, he spoke to Yang Fan in a low voice, and Yang Fan nodded in agreement.

The case of Mad Doctor Bobby was very sensational and SCI solved the case beautifully, but of course, this time it also involved the truth about the plane crash back then. The so-called truth was usually something beyond the limits of public tolerance, so it was only selectively made public. All the other perpetrators involved in the killing of the survivors of the plane crash were duly punished and the case came to an end.

The next afternoon, Yang Fan and several plastic surgeon authorities performed another major operation to restore Hao Ling's face and remove all those parts that had turned her into Qiu Yiwen.

By this time, Lan Qi was out of the intensive care unit. Bai Jintang had chosen a double room for the two in the hospital, with their beds placed side by side against each other to ensure that they would wake up and see each other at first sight.

A few days later, Bobby passed away from cancer.

Meanwhile, Hao Ling and Lan Qi woke up.

The most amazing thing was that none of Hao Ling's memories of the three years she spent as Qiu Yiwen existed. She, like Lan Qi, thought that the two were finally saved. The three years in between were stripped from their minds, leaving only fond memories behind.

When they woke up, Hao Ling wept tears of joy, and Lan Qi, whose fingers were still not very active, just smiled and struggled to hold her hand.

Hao Ling told him, "You were right."

Lan Qi nodded and spoke with some difficulty, "We will definitely be able to leave."

At this moment, Bai Yutang and Zhan Zhao happened to be on their way to visit the two in the ward before leaving.

When they saw the scene in the room from outside the door, they were too embarrassed to go in and disturb it, so they gave the fruit basket to Lan Xi and Chen Yu, who were taking good care of the two of them. These two have developed rapidly and Chen Yu finally did not have to be alone. Now, the four sisters all have homes.

"By the way, Cat."

When they left the hospital, Bai Yutang asked Zhan Zhao, "After all, they were missing from the world for three years, how do we explain that if we are asked about it later?"

He thought about it and clapped his hands, "Ah! Let's just say that they travelled back in time and the time tunnel erased their memories!"

Bai Yutang held his forehead.

Zhan Zhao asked excitedly, "Do you think it's better to travel to the past, or to the future?"
