S.C.I Mystery Series Volume 1 Chapter 104

Shadow Murderer 12 – Ruthless

The next morning, Bai Yutang and Zhan Zhao were shaken awake on the sofa by Gongsun. When they sat up, they couldn't even open their eyes and their faces were dazed.

Gongsun looked at the two of them and couldn't laugh or cry, "What did you two do last night? Look at these dark circles under your eyes."

"Ugh... don't mention it." Bai Yutang shook his head and moved his sore neck. Turning his face to look at Zhan Zhao, he saw that he was still sitting there dazedly, obviously not awake.

Bai Yutang immediately revitalised and reached out to pinch Zhan Zhao's nose. Zhan Zhao was still dazed and unresponsive. Gongsun looked amused and also reached out to poke Zhan Zhao's cheek. Zhan Zhao blinked, but was still dazed.

"How interesting, instead of being a cat, you've changed to a panda?" Gongsun looked at Bai Yutang in confusion, "How come he's like this?"

"He's not awake yet." Bai Yutang said in a quiet voice.

There are many types of waking up temper, from the grumpy type to the meek type. If Gongsun is a typical example of the grumpy type of waking up temper, then Zhan Zhao is a representative of the meek type of waking up temper. As long as he hasn't slept enough, after being forced to get up, he will become very dull for a period of time, and no matter how much you bully him, he will be dazed and not able to resist at all. This is why Bai Yutang wakes up so early every morning, but this period will only last for a while. If he is still bullying him when he has completely woken up, then he should prepare to be scratched.

Today, however, Bai Yutang himself was not awake, so he just pinched and kneaded and lost track of time. Zhan Zhao's eyes gradually lit up and when he found that Bai Yutang was pinching his cheeks, he slowly turned his face.

"Cat, you're awake?" Bai Yutang asked with a smile, but Zhan Zhao smiled faintly and without warning, he bit his finger with an "ahhh".

"Ah ~ ~ hiss..." Bai Yutang hurriedly pulled back his finger, rubbing it while shouting, "Cat, do you have rabies? It hurts like hell."

Seeing that the situation was not good, Gongsun ran away in a flash. Zhan Zhao shook his head, yawned, and turned his face to glare at Bai Yutang who was rubbing his fingers on the side, muttering, "Damn mouse, deserved it, who told you to sneak up on me." After saying that, he stood up and slunk off to the bathroom to brush his teeth and wash his face.

Bai Yutang was helpless and went after him.

............

Bai Chi got out of the car and rushed towards the police station with a pile of breakfast in his arms. Since SCI has someone on duty almost every day, there is always someone there to eat if you bring extra breakfast in the morning, so Bai Chi has made it a habit to buy a few extra portions of breakfast every morning so that if the SCI members don't eat it, they can share it with colleagues in other departments. Since Bai Chi joined the team, SCI's affinity with the police department has been strengthened. In the past, the other departments in the police station had all stayed away from the SCI members. On the one hand, it was because the group was somewhat distant as they were all so-called elites. On the other hand, from the captain to the members of the group, they all belonged to the type of people who talked little, and all of them seemed a bit cool, mysterious, and indeed powerful, but just a bit too out of touch. But Xiao Bai Chi was different. He used to run around from department to department looking for information, sometimes he would help people with shopping and food, he was not grumpy at all and was a bit slow. Gradually, people from other departments would chat with the others when they met SCI, and once they got to know each other, they didn't find it difficult to get along, as they were all the same age and peers after all. In this regard, Bao Zheng even praised Bai Chi, saying that he was a miracle that had only appeared in the Bai family pace every hundred years, that the Bai family's ancestors must have manifested themselves, and that smoke was coming from their ancestral graves.

When he ran to the entrance of the police station, he saw a small child standing in front of the large police station gate, looking up at the high roof and then down at a business card in his hand, looking a little hesitant.

"Little friend, are you looking for someone?" Bai Chi walked up a couple of steps with his breakfast in hand. Perhaps because he looked so non-threatening, the kid didn't show any signs of defensiveness, he just nodded his head and showed him the business card in his hand.

Bai Chi looked down and saw that it was Zhan Zhao's business card. He looked at the child again and saw that he was a young boy about six or seven years old, a little thin but healthy looking, athletic in nature, with bronze coloured skin. Looking more closely at his features, he found that the child was very good-looking, not cute, but a rare good-looking for a child of this age. It was just that the expression on his face was a maturity that shouldn't be there at this age.

"You're looking for Dr. Zhan, huh? I'm in the same office as him, I'll take you there, okay?" Bai Chi tried his best to look more amiable, and handed over a small dumpling, "Have you had breakfast?"

The child in front of Bai Chi was none other than Luo Yang, who had come looking for Zhan Zhao. He looked at the small ‘brother' with big eyes and a baby face in front of him and couldn't help but ask, “You… are also a police officer?"

"That's right." Bai Chi nodded excitedly.

"That..." Luo Yang looked at his breakfast and said, "I've had breakfast... You, are you an adult?"

"......" Bai Chi felt as if a basin of cold water had been poured over his head and his heart instantly went cold.

Luo Yang saw that the man in front of him looked like he had been badly hit and realised that he had said the wrong thing, so he quickly reached out and patted him, saying, "You... don't look that young."

"Really?" Bai Chi stopped drawing circles and tilted his face up to look at him.

Luo Yang really wanted to reach out and pet his head, seeing his watery eyes and a tail that kept wagging behind him, and thought, ‘There really are all kinds of police officers.’

"Right, you're looking for Dr. Zhan, let's go, come with me." Bai Chi reached out to take Luo Yang's hand, but Luo Yang suddenly shuddered and his eyes looked straight ahead, as if he saw something, then he turned and ran.

"Ai..." Bai Chi ran up a few steps, "Little friend? Little friend..." but Luo Yang had disappeared in a blink of an eye.

"Strange." Bai Chi was a little puzzled and turned around to walk back when he was coldly bumped by a person who was quickly rushing outside.

"Aiya." Bai Chi stumbled, and the things in his hands fell to the ground. Rubbing his shoulder, Bai Chi bent down to pick up his things, wondering what was wrong with him this early in the morning. After thinking about it again, the one who hit him just now seemed to be someone he had seen before, the vice-captain of the anti-gang unit, what's his name again... seems to be Yu.

When he walked out of the elevator with his breakfast in his arms, he saw Zhan Zhao coming out of the bathroom. "Brother..." Bai Chi had just called out when he saw Zhan Zhao rush forward with a single step, "Chi Chi, I want a steamed bun!"

"Here, and soy milk." Bai Chi handed Zhan Zhao his breakfast while saying, "Brother, just now there was a child downstairs who seemed to be looking for you."

"Really? Was he very dark? Where is he?" Zhan Zhao didn't eat his breakfast and hurriedly asked Bai Chi.

"I said I was going to bring him up, but he suddenly ran off on his own... Brother? Where are you going?" Before Bai Chi could finish his sentence, Zhan Zhao shoved his breakfast back and rushed out.

"What's going on here?" Jiang Ping, who had come out to get his breakfast, watched Zhan Zhao dart away and wondered, "Dr. Zhan is doing his morning exercise, huh?"

"Here you go!" Bai Chi shoved the pile of food into Jiang Ping's hands and turned around to quickly chase after Zhan Zhao.

“Ai~~" Jiang Ping looked at the food in his hand, "I can't eat this much!"

At this time, Bai Yutang also came out from the washroom, "What's wrong?"

"I don't know, Dr. Zhan ran away, then Xiao Bai Chi also ran away..." Before he finished speaking, Jiang Ping saw Bai Yutang also rush into the stairwell, and after a long silence, he picked up a bun and took a nibble, "Then Chief also ran away." Turning around, he went back to the office.

Zhan Zhao rushed out of the police station, looked around, and after a brief thought, he ran towards the alley across the street.

Bai Chi, who had chased him downstairs, saw Zhan Zhao run across the street and into the alleyway, and hurriedly chased after him as well.

As Zhan Zhao walked into the alley, he listened and walked forward. A rolled up card on the ground at the corner caught his attention and he walked over to pick it up, it was his business card.

At that moment, a man's voice came from not far away, and it sounded like he was cursing. Zhan Zhao hurriedly rushed over and ran a few steps forward, when he suddenly saw a man pinning a small child to the ground. The one being pinned down was none other than Luo Yang. He could see that there was blood on his hands and at the corners of his mouth, and that the man's arm was bloody and fleshy, presumably from being bitten. Luo Yang was an unusually fierce child, it was not easy to subdue him, it was obvious that the man had suffered a loss, however, Zhan Zhao saw that he seemed to be enraged and was holding Luo Yang down with one hand while he drew out a dagger with the other and raised it to stab...

It was too late to draw his gun, so Zhan Zhao shouted, "What are you doing?!"

The man was obviously startled and his movements stalled, but at the right moment, Zhan Zhao rushed up and knocked him away. Only when the man fell over did Zhan Zhao see that the person he had knocked away was an officer from the anti-gang unit, Vice Captain Yu Qingyan.

When Yu Qingyan saw Zhan Zhao, he was stunned, but then he immediately pulled his gun from his holster.

As he watched Yu Qingyan raise his gun and aim, a man came out from the side and knocked him away, causing his gun to fall to the ground - it was Bai Chi!

After Bai Chi knocked Yu Qingyan away, he himself fell to the side. When Yu Qingyan rolled over and tried to stand up, Zhan Zhao suddenly saw Luo Yang rush out from behind him, grabbing half a brick in his hand and raising his hand to smash Yu Qingyan's head hard.

"Ah~~" Yu Qingyan screamed in agony and half of his face was suddenly covered in blood, but Luo Yang immediately kicked him hard in the knee again. Yu Qingyan let out another cry of pain and fell to his knees. Luo Yang picked up the brick and struck him hard on the head again, knocking Yu Qingyan, a big man of nearly 1.8 metres, straight to the ground. Then, Luo Yang took a step forward and reached out to tightly strangle Yu Qingyan’s neck.

"Uh... uh..." Yu Qingyan was injured and was unable to resist, and he could not have imagined that a child would be so ruthless and strong. Luo Yang was strangling Yu Qingyan's neck with a deadly grip, his eyes wide open with no other expression on his face at all. No matter how much the person underneath him struggled, he just wouldn't let go, and he saw that Yu Qingyan's eyes had started to roll.

Zhan Zhao and Bai Chi were both dumbfounded, such actions were far beyond the ability of a seven-year-old child, it was like he was a young beast. Zhan Zhao was sure that when Bai Yutang was a child, even when he was most angry, he had never been so vicious.

Both of them forgot how to react for a moment, but they heard a slightly laid-back voice come from beside them, "No wonder Chen Jie said that this kid is a character, he's really ruthless."

Only then did Zhan Zhao wake up, and when he turned his face, he saw that Bai Yutang had already arrived at some point and was standing to the side watching.

"You, you're still watching?!" Zhan Zhao glared at him and looked at the two on the ground. If he didn't separate them, Yu Qingyan's life would really be on the line.

Bai Yutang smiled faintly and walked forward, reaching out to grab Luo Yang's collar and lift him up with one hand. Luo Yang's eyes were not kind and he looked back at Bai Yutang fiercely, but he saw Bai Yutang glaring at him, and for some reason, Luo Yang gradually quieted down.

After being put on the ground by Bai Yutang, Luo Yang looked at the purple-faced, panting and blood-covered Yu Qingyan lying beside him, and gently lowered his head and slumped his shoulders, as if he was a bit defeated and regretful.

Zhan Zhao could see that Luo Yang already had a slight tendency for violence, but, to be more precise, Luo Yang's tendency for violence was hereditary and carried in his bones, not formed later in life. If his mind was truly impaired, he would not have acted so calmly and methodically. The decadence he is showing now is because Luo Wen has instilled in him a certain moral code and norms, and that has been an effective means of controlling him, it's just that once his life is threatened, he will still explode with that kind of potential... dangerous as a murder weapon.

Bai Yutang looked at the dejected Luo Yang in front of him, then smiled, squatted down and patted him on the head, "Well done, you not only saved yourself, but also saved two useless cops who can only use their brains."

Zhan Zhao and Bai Chi's eyelids twitched and they looked at each other, tacitly wanting to crouch together in a corner and draw circles – it hurt their pride too much.

Luo Yang looked up at Bai Yutang with some hesitation, a few hints of doubt in his eyes.

"It's not easy to take out a guy so many times bigger than you with your bare hands, you can't do it without being ruthless." Bai Yutang looked at the bricks on the ground and said, "Next time you hit someone with a brick, remember to hit the front so that he becomes unable to resist in one go, hitting the back of the head and the temple will easily kill the person, hitting the face will not kill him and will hurt at the same time!"

Luo Yang thought about it and nodded.

Zhan Zhao really wanted to smack Bai Yutang with that brick. What was he teaching the child?! While Bai Chi on the other hand was stroking his chin in thought, "So that's how it is."

"And!" Bai Yutang reached out and pointed at Luo Yang, "To subdue a person, you don't have to kill them, a chokehold is the most inefficient method, but you can punch them in the face, dislocate their limbs, and hit them in the stomach continuously if you don't feel satisfied, but you can't kill them!" Here, he paused and stared into Luo Yang's eyes, saying word by word, "Remember, there is nothing wrong with being angry, there is nothing wrong with venting your anger, what is wrong is that you don't control yourself well! If you control your anger, you win, if your anger controls you, you lose!" After saying that, he raised an eyebrow, "Got it?"

Luo Yang's eyes widened as he stared at Bai Yutang, then he nodded forcefully, "Mhmm!"

  1. Ah this is so cute. Zhan Zhao needed some times after woke up to be able to function. No wonder Yutang loved to wake up early. So he can bullied Zhan Zhao and ran away. 🤣

Bai Chi was so sweet. He could bridged SCI with other departments just by being himself. ❤️ It's funny how Luo Yang's words made him almost cried and then another words made him happy again like an overgrown puppy. 🤭

The scenes that followed is better in the book version. It showed us Zhan Zhao's brilliant how he could guessed where Luo Yang ran away.

Also it showed us about Luo Yang's capabilities. First he teared a puppy just by the strength of his hands. Now when he felt threatened his personality transformed into a ruthless beast.

Yutang was too calm. He could observed calmly like that before he pulled Luo Yang. Luo Yang was really like a wild beast. He could sensed that Yutang was more powerful than him so he subdued.

I can feel what Zhan Zhao felt. What did Yutang teach a small kid? Until he finished his teaching, I just understand what he wanted to teach Luo Yang.

Now I want to see how Yutang groveled for Zhan Zhao's forgiveness. 🤭😝 How dare him say useless cops that only could use brains? Bai Chi would easily forgave him. But a cat would always held a grudge. 😂🤣

  2. I like the way Yutang reacted towards the incident. He didn't scold Luo Yang but actually praised him (to show that they're not mad at him) and then giving useful tips on how things can be done better. I could see him as the great leader he is.
    Thank you for the translation!
