S.C.I Mystery Series Volume 3 Chapter 124
"Your brother has killed people?" Bai Yutang took the bullet and looked at Lan Xi with some confusion, unsure of the situation.
"It was a long time ago in a small town in South America, and a sudden situation arose." Lan Xi explained to the crowd, "I don't remember the details, but it was a rather urgent situation, a drug dealer kidnapped a kindergarten school bus. Brother was involved in the rescue and there was no regular military or police help at the time, plus time was short and the lead drug dealer had to be killed. But the problem was that the crowd couldn't do anything about his bulletproof car, so Brother modified the gun and bullets himself."
Zhan Zhao frowned, "That must have been a long time ago, right?"
"Indeed, and later on, Brother and I were talking about it when we were drinking, it was really thrilling, and he kept that bullet to show me." Saying that, Lan Xi helplessly spread his hands, "But my Brother did die."
"Perhaps, it wasn't your brother who did it." Bai Yutang looked at the bullet, "He learned it from your brother, or… is the one who taught your brother."
The crowd looked at each other as the situation became increasingly complicated.
The police station was once again on alert, Bao Zheng was unsurprisingly furious, and Zhan Zhao and Bai Yutang took the opportunity to slip away first.
The twins arrived at the hospital for a visit and called to say that Forensic Pathologist Yang was still being resuscitated and the bullet was said to have bounced several times in his chest cavity, injuring several internal organs, and given his age and physical condition, the doctors wanted the crowd to be mentally prepared.
Yang Fan was also involved in Doctor Yang's consultation and said that the situation was not very optimistic.
Zhan Zhao and Bai Yutang went to Doctor Yang's office and examined it carefully, trying to find out what he was trying to tell them and perhaps find out who was responsible for this shooting.
Jiang Ping opened up Forensic Pathologist Yang's computer to take a closer look, Gongsun flipped through a pile of professional documents, and Ma Xin led others to take a closer look at the forensic room.
Zhan Zhao, on the other hand, sat on top of a swivel chair in the middle of Forensic Pathologist Yang's office, spinning back and forth, observing the surroundings.
"Old Yang has found a lot of information." Gongsun flipped through the papers and said, "It's all medical papers and records of some surgical cases."
"Isn't he a forensic pathologist?" Bai Jintang was a little puzzled, "Trying to switch careers?"
Gongsun shook his head, "Probably not… it’s a bit strange."
Bai Yutang saw that the office was neat and tidy, and Old Yang was a very clean person. He said he was coming to SCI and was called downstairs to get the package... Obviously someone was in a hurry to kill him and it might have something to do with his discovery.
Zhan Zhao tilted his face to look at the ceiling for a long time, "Old Yang seems to have some nostalgia lately."
"Nostalgia?" Bai Yutang did not understand.
Zhan Zhao reached out and pointed to a stack of CDs on the coffee table - it was a mess.
The crowd looked over in the direction he was pointing and saw a stack of CDs there, which were very old and seemed to have been rummaged through by Old Yang earlier.
The CD of the movie 《Mad Doctor Town》 was open and at the top, but the disc was missing.
Zhan Zhao glanced at Bai Yutang, then stretched out his finger and hooked it at him.
Bai Yutang padded over, "What is it?"
"Where is the ticket stub from the last concert we went to?" Zhan Zhao asked without warning.
Bai Yutang thought for a moment, "Stuck in that novel you're halfway through, about two hundred pages in."
Everyone had a dark look on their faces - cleanliness and OCD could sometimes lead to people evolving terrible abilities.
"What about that CD with the video of Lilia having kittens that was made last time?" Zhan Zhao then asked.
Bai Yutang raised his face slightly, “Hmm... the second compartment of the bookshelf, next to the picture of Lilia and Luban together."
Zhan Zhao reached out and pointed to the open disc case on the table, "Where is the disc?"
Bai Yutang froze, and the people around him looked around.
Bai Yutang, however, frowned and walked quickly to the table, saying to Jiang Ping who was fiddling with the computer, "Is there a disc inside the disc drive?"
Jiang Ping opened the disc drive, and indeed... the disc was inside, it was a movie disc for Mad Doctor Town.
Bai Yutang took out the disc and looked at Zhan Zhao, "Cat, what does that mean?"
"He wants to show us this disc." Zhan Zhao said.
"Could it be that he forgot to take it out?" Gongsun asked, "I always forget to take out the disc whenever I watch them."
The crowd nodded.
But Zhan Zhao shook his head, "It's unlikely. With Old Yang's kind of personality, he wouldn't tolerate the disc case just being flopped open and left on the table."
Saying that, Zhan Zhao pointed at the laptop again and said to Jiang Ping, "See if there's anything underneath the laptop?"
Jiang Ping looked down and saw that the laptop was quite smooth, and there was nothing major wrong with it. He lifted the laptop up and it was just a glass desktop underneath.
But just as he was about to put the laptop down, a photo fluttered down from the bottom...
Bai Yutang walked over and picked it up, "The bottom of the laptop is hot and the photo will stick easily with the front side up."
"Too much heat on the surface will destroy the photo." Zhan Zhao said, "Old Yang should have put it there in a hurry and was only going to put it there for a while."
"Hmm." Bai Yutang looked at the photo, "A very inexplicable photo."
Zhan Zhao stood up and went over to look at it, only to see that the photo showed two teenagers aged 13 or so, one wearing glasses and the other with blonde hair like a foreign kid. Both teenagers were very thin, but very lively looking and tanned. The two were bare-chested just in their shorts, smiling especially brightly, and holding a very large fish in their hands, both with rods standing up behind them, clearly showing their fishing trophy.
"Why did Old Yang hide such a picture under his notebook?" Bai Yutang wondered.
Zhan Zhao nodded at the laptop, "Old Yang was hesitating."
The crowd looked at him.
"He was sitting on a chair, the disc was put into the computer, and he was holding the photo in his hand while hesitating for the last time." Zhan Zhao said, taking the photo, "Right at this moment, the phone call suddenly came, and he wanted to put the photo down."
The crowd looked at Zhan Zhao's actions and seemed to see how Old Yang had reacted just now.
"But this photo is very important and there is something secret in it." Zhan Zhao said, looking at the crowd, "Usually, if you're holding something made of paper that's very important in your hand and you suddenly have to leave for a while, would you just throw the paper on the table? Or..."
"Keep it under something!" The crowd answered in unison.
"If he didn't need the photo later, he could have put it back where he found it, or in a drawer, but if it was shoved under the computer in a hurry, it means he was going to use it later."
“He was going to use it later means he wants to show it to us, doesn't he?" Bai Yutang nodded. Zhan Zhao's deduction was indeed logically, so everyone gathered around to examine that photo.
"Is there anything wrong with the photo?" The crowd examined it carefully and could not see anything different.
"This one is Old Yang." Gongsun suddenly reached out and pointed to a teenager in the photo.
"It doesn't look like him at all." Zhan Zhao was surprised.
"True, but facial bone structure doesn't lie." Gongsun reached out and pinched the bridge of his nose, "Old Yang's main facial features are the completed state of this teenager's growth."
The crowd glanced at each other and looked at the blonde teenager next to them, "And who is he?"
"I've never seen this man." Gongsun took the photo and looked at it carefully, "But we can do a comparison of facial features, if it's someone with a criminal record, a photo record, or someone who has died… we might be able to find out.
"Old Yang watched this disc many times." Jiang Ping checked Old Yang's computer, "He's been watching it almost non-stop for a while now."
"Non-stop?"
"Like, almost the whole night." Jiang Ping tilted his face up to look at Bai Yutang and Zhan Zhao, "From yesterday to today, he's been watching it over and over again."
"No wonder he looked so tired today." Gongsun frowned, "What exactly did he find?"
Bai Yutang took the disc, "Borrow the police station's screening room for a while. Let’s all watch this film again together, this time we'll pay attention to the details."
The crowd all nodded and took the disc to the screening room.
When Bao Zheng went to look for the SCI crowd again, the news he got was that all the members were in the screening room watching a horror movie. So, Bao Zheng stormed to the screening room in a rage, "You guys..."
"Bao Sir." Bai Yutang didn't wait for him to say anything before holding the photo out to him, "Do you know this person?"
Bao Zheng took the photo and shook his head, "That black-haired one is Old Yang, right?"
"You know?" Bai Yutang was surprised.
"Nonsense, he's older than us, but he was still young when I knew him. Old Yang was one of the first forensic pathologists in China." Bao Zheng took the photo and looked at it carefully, "This teenager… I seem to have seen him somewhere."
"Think about it." Bai Yutang urged, "The attack on Old Yang might have something to do with him."
"Uh..." Bao Zheng tilted his head as he tried to think, and Zhan Zhao came over, "Bao Sir, are you too old to remember? I'll help you..."
“Go away!" Bao Zheng glared at Zhan Zhao and really remembered something, "By the way, what are you going to do with that Quasimodo you have locked up in the interrogation room? Have you finished interrogating him yet?"
"I'm going to interrogate him but I don't have all the information now, so I'll ask him after I've seen the movie." Zhan Zhao went back and sat down.
Bao Zheng frowned and came over, "Is there anything special about this film?"
Zhan Zhao shook his head, "I don't know, but Old Yang seems to want us to take a look. And the two main actors, Cen Yi and Qin Tian, both died for some reason, and that big guy was found on the set of the film in Mad Doctor Town, so..."
"Ah, stop here!"
Zhan Zhao was speaking when Bai Chi suddenly pointed at the screen.
Everyone knew that Bai Chi could remember instantly, so he could probably ‘record' the movie in his head and check it frame by frame.
"What's wrong?” Zhan Zhao went to Bai Chi's side.
"I just saw the same design as Yu Xiaofeng's tattoo." Bai Chi pressed the rewind button and stopped at one place, and going over to point at the wall on the screen, "Look, it's painted on the wall."
Everyone gathered around to look, only to see that in the darkened hallway of the hospital in Mad Doctor Town, on the wall, a pattern that resembled a map was painted with black spray paint, as well as coordinates with arrows, and an inexplicable X.
"Even the handwriting of the X is very similar." Zhan Zhao had previously studied handwriting identification for a while and noticed it at a glance.
"We passed by this building this afternoon." Bai Yutang shook his head, "There's no reason why we didn't find it!"
"There were red bloodstains there." Bai Chi fast-forwarded the film, and when the scene reappeared, the coordinate was smeared out and turned into a large puddle of blood.
Mixed in with the many bloodstains, it didn't stand out. But it seemed bizarre - because the bloodstain was very large and different from the spattering around it, it seemed as if it was deliberately meant to smear that map.
"It's a not-so-obvious shot, isn't it?” Bao Zheng asked the crowd.
“En." Bai Yutang nodded and told Jiang Ping to zoom in on the patch of blood.
“Eh..." The crowd waited for the image to be enlarged and then looked at it again, and together they pointed above the blood and said in unison, "There's a handprint here!"
The magnified image clearly showed a red handprint, relatively intact, at the top of the bloodstain. Still, it was normal to have bloodstains, bloody handprints and even bloody hands and feet in such horrific scenes. But to Zhan Zhao, Bai Yutang and the others, this handprint was very strange - because, it looked like a familiar handprint!
All of them laughed and looked at each other - what a big handprint!
Bao Zheng thought of it too, "Is it that Quasimodo?"
"This film was shot a long, long time ago." Zhan Zhao said, "That means that someone deliberately altered the footage to try to hide the coordinates and it was the big monster who did it. But…. the footage was already captured on film and no one noticed."
"People generally don't pay attention to this detail when watching movies, right?" Zhan Zhao gently rubbed his chin, "What secrets are involved?"
"The person who handed Cen Yi over so easily was also signed with an X!" Bai Yutang pointed to the X on the screen, "Could it be referring to this X here?"
Just when they were at a loss for words, Bai Chi spotted another blooper, "Look here!"
Moving to the screen, the crowd stared at a spot where Bai Chi was pointing. It was a shot of a group of demons dancing wildly.
The shooting must have taken place in the evening, as the lighting wasn't very good. In the close up and medium shots, there were some mass actors dressed as zombies acting as zombies who were foraging around for food.
And in an extremely inconspicuous corner of the distant scene, two other people were captured in that moment. They were not wearing costumes and make-up, not to mention not being movie characters.
If Bai Chi hadn't pointed them out, it would have been really hard to spot them. This is the absolute advantage of a high IQ, it is much harder to divert attention than the average person.
They saw that the backs of two people who were running furiously in the distance, they looked like they were about to run out of the shot, only to be captured into the frame for a split second.
Jiang Ping zoomed in and the two men were running one after the other. The one running behind was a large man, very large and with very uncoordinated movements.
The crowd recognised at once that it was the big man they had caught.
The other man running in front was largely obscured by the big man.
But luckily for them, he was looking back, and in that moment, a clear side view of him was captured.
Jiang Ping zoomed in on that side and the man's face came into view - it was a blond foreigner with a thick beard. There was no way to tell his age, but his eyebrows looked somewhat familiar.
Gongsun held out the picture and positioned the blonde teenager next to the fleeing blonde foreigner, "It's definitely the same person, Old Yang knows him, maybe the commonly known - childhood friend."
The crowd all raised an eyebrow and sighed in relief at the same time - that was the connection!
And at the same time, Bao Zheng tapped his forehead, "I've seen this guy before!"

Zhan Zhao really terrifying right? They all blindly searched in Old Yang's office. But he just sat there and found the clue!
ReplyDeleteBai Chi is amazing. He could found all the little details that could helped them found clues.
But it's a surprise that this case linked to incidents that had long passed. The blonde teenager must be already as old as Old Yang. And this case had a connection with an old movie that been filmed long time ago. I'm surprised the enemies didn't try to sabotage the clips that captured those two.
