S.C.I Mystery Series Volume 3 Chapter 88

Lucky Murderer 18 – Last Chance... Eagle

Zhan Zhao and Bai Yutang stood in the elevator, looking around somewhat idly as it ascended.

Tony stared at the screen of the elevator as the floor indicator changed, moving one level at a time.

Zhan Zhao's cell phone vibrated gently.

Zhan Zhao slightly raised the corners of his mouth and took out his phone to look at it, and it was indeed a text message from Zhao Hu and the others.

Even Ma Han and Zhao Hu could understand what Zhan Zhao meant, not to mention Bai Yutang, who was almost one with Zhan Zhao to the point of tacit understanding.

Backing away slightly, Bai Yutang seemed to be bored, but this was a gesture of vigilance on his part, as he was already on guard against this Tony. It's a normal reaction, when you're on guard against someone, you don’t show your back to them, you always show your back to the person you trust most.

‘Ding’, the elevator arrived.

When Zhan Zhao took a step back and Tony stepped outside, Bai Yutang saw a grey figure on the smooth marble floor at the elevator entrance and reached out to pull Tony by the back of his collar.

"Uh..."

Tony froze, and felt something against his back. This texture – it should be a pistol.

Bai Yutang smiled faintly, "Come out."

Tony laughed, "Come out of what?"

Seeing this, Zhan Zhao said, "I suggest you don't challenge his patience, and that person at the elevator door."

Tony's foot was right in the way of the door and the elevator couldn't be closed. He wanted to retract his foot, but Bai Yutang wouldn't let him move.

At that moment, the figure on the ground was seen gently retreating… as if they wanted to run away.

Zhan Zhao looked at his watch, forty-five seconds, enough time for Zhao Hu and Ma Han, who had incredible physical strength, to run up...

Sure enough, someone could be heard whispering, "Don't move."

The one who spoke was Ma Han.

Bai Yutang gave Tony a gentle push.

Tony walked out, and Zhan Zhao followed him. He saw a man in the hallway with a gun in his hand raised above his head, and the gun was collected by Zhao Hu as he cuffed his hands behind his back.

Bai Yutang handcuffed Tony as well.

Zhan Zhao pointed to the surveillance room with his hands behind his back to Ma Han.

Ma Han and Zhao Hu nodded and went to the door of the surveillance room with their guns.

As soon as they kicked the door in, they heard a burst of gunfire coming from inside.

But Ma Han and Zhao Hu were experienced and had already ducked against the wall. The man inside seemed to have little experience and let off a barrage of shots at the outside, putting a number of bullet holes in the wall.

When the gunfire stopped, and after a long time, someone gently opened the door, and at the same time, Zhao Hu kicked the door.

"Well..."

There was a muffled grunt from inside.

Ma Han and Zhao Hu rushed in and grabbed the person inside.

Tony bowed his head and sighed, saying with some regret, "I was too careless, I should have moved when Ma Han came yesterday."

All three men were ushered into the surveillance room and told to sit down.

Zhan Zhao moved a stool and sat opposite Tony, while Ma Han went to open the surveillance footage to look at the previous information, and Zhao Hu searched around.

Bai Yutang looked at the three, all of them were new faces, and finally his eyes fell on Tony, "Were you the one who pretended to be a cop to take the information?"

"No." Tony shook his head, "I don't know what you're talking about."

"We saw on the surveillance footage that you were there that day, it's useless to argue.” Zhan Zhao looked at him from side to side, "It's you all right."

"People have similarities, I guess." Tony muttered, "There's so many people in the hospital and there's no definite proof, don't frame people."

"Heh." Zhao Hu, who was looking for something, suddenly let out a laugh.

"That's a tried and true trick." Bai Yutang looked at Zhan Zhao, "People with a guilty conscience love to confess without fighting."

"Hmm." Zhan Zhao agreed, nodding his head and smiling at Tony, "Who said you went to the hospital?"

Tony immediately wilted and gave Zhan Zhao a somewhat feeble glance, "You really are cunning, no wonder he said you were the hardest one to deal with!"

Zhan Zhao froze and Bai Yutang held his forehead.

Zhan Zhao stood up, walked to the side, took out his mobile phone, and dialled a number. Sure enough, the phone went through not long after, and a familiar voice came from the other end, “Kit..."

Zhan Zhao took a deep breath, "This matter has something to do with you again?!"

The person on the other end of the line still had a somewhat cynical tone, "Kitty, how's the code cracking going?"

"Ahem." Zhan Zhao coughed, "Almost there!"

"Oh... it's almost time! Which means it's not solved?"

Zhan Zhao ground his teeth.

Bai Yutang reached out, taking the phone from Zhan Zhao's hand, and with an argument developing on one side, he asked, “Zhao Jue, what does this have to do with you?"

"Actually no, I'm just here to wreak havoc, not wreak havoc on you guys of course.” Zhao Jue said, "Tony's just a professional scavenger, better not give him a hard time."

"You hired a scavenger to kill Lian Qianyi to frame Lian Qianzhong?!" Bai Yutang was in some disbelief, perhaps Zhao Jue had been so peaceful for a while now that he had forgotten he was a criminal.

"I'm fighting violence with violence, it has nothing to do with the actions of your police, but since you've already investigated here, it doesn't matter, the result is almost the same... so, good luck!" After saying that, he hung up the phone inexplicably.

Bai Yutang was confused and looked at Zhan Zhao.

Zhan Zhao sighed and turned back to ask Tony again, "Zhao Jue gave you money to kill Lian Qianyi, frame Lian Qianzhong, and then take all the hospital case records? Why?"

"The purpose was just to get to the stuff before Lian Qianzhong did!" Tony shrugged, "The other employers didn't even tell me, it's a rule in our business not to ask too many questions."

"The information wasn't found." Zhao Hu looked at Zhan Zhao.

"Where's the stuff?" Zhan Zhao frowned at Tony.

"It was secretly sent to the police station." Tony said, "My employer called me this morning and asked me to do it, and reminded me that I should find a place to hide, but I took it upon myself to meet you guys."

Bai Yutang called back to ask Jiang Ping, who said thatZhan Zhao had indeed received a package, which was heavy and scanned to show that it was documents.

Bai Yutang closed his phone.

Ma Han and Zhao Hu looked back – The words of a professional scavenger would be useless even if they were arrested, as evidence would be unlikely to be found, after all, snakes have snake ways, and they lived inside a completely different world from each other, almost like normal people, as well water doesn’t mix with river water.

Bai Yutang nodded as Ma Han and Zhao Hu unlocked the three men's handcuffs.

Tony sighed, “Ai... I'm going to have to move again, it's so hard to secure a place in S City."

"A professional killer, is that why there are so many bugs set up in the work area?" Zhan Zhao asked him.

"Mm-hmm!" Tony nodded, "Be careful sailing a thousand-year-old ship, the experience I just had has once again taught me to keep my tail between my legs and be a human being, curiosity killed the cat."

Zhan Zhao looked at him with his chin in his hands, "You don't know anything, do you? People are always curious."

Tony hesitated for a moment, as if considering.

Bai Yutang shook the handcuffs in his hand.

Tony asked, "If I say it, can we not move? Business is good in S City!"

Bai Yutang shrugged, "Who's going to bother you if you're doing legitimate business?"

Tony laughed and said, "Lian Qianzhong... there is something going on!"

The crowd listened intently.

"That boy..."

“PING!"

Before Tony could finish, they heard a crisp sound and the glass shattered

Bai Yutang kicked Tony away the moment he heard the gunshot, and at the same time pounced on Zhan Zhao... but Tony fell to the side, a bloody hole appearing at his heart.

The bullet's penetrating power was extremely strong, piercing directly through the wall. Fortunately Zhan Zhao was thrown away by Bai Yutang, and the bullet only grazed his shoulder and flew past, so close.

Bai Yutang saw that it was not good and pulled Zhan Zhao to retreat, while shouting, "Armoured bullets, retreat!"

Zhao Hu rolled to the window, first pulling the curtains shut as soon as he could, then running quickly out of the surveillance room with the others... At the same time, several more chaotic sounds were heard, all the glass shattered, and the car alarms downstairs began to chirp.

A bloodstain appeared on Zhao Hu's cheek when he and Ma Han carried Tony out.

"Mother... almost disfigured." Zhao Hu wiped away a handful of blood as he patted his chest and complained to Ma Han.

Ma Han gave him a blank look, "What do you have to disfigure?"

Two of Tony's brothers were tense as they tended to Tony, and Bai Yutang called for an ambulance.

But Tony seemed to be dying, the bullet had missed by just a little bit and there was no telling if it had hit his heart, but his mouth was full of blood and there was definitely internal bleeding.

"Tony!" Zhan Zhao saw Tony looking at him, his mouth was slightly opening and closing, so he hurried over to listen.

Tony opened his mouth and intermittently said a few words, "Last chance... Eagle..."

When he finished, he began to gasp weakly.

"Big brother!" The two brothers next to him were so agitated that they couldn't help but cry out.

Ma Han came over and said to Bai Yutang, "There's a sniper spot right over there!"

Bai Yutang nodded and told Zhan Zhao and Zhao Hu to stay here and wait for the ambulance and for other personnel to come, while he went over with Ma Han.

Zhan Zhao told him to be careful and watched the two leave with some confusion in his head – Last chance? Eagle? What does that mean? Is it related to Lian Qianzhong?

Putting aside the fact that Zhan Zhao was tangled up.

Bai Yutang and Ma Han sprinted out of the shooting club and into the building across the street.

"Guess who it is?" Ma Han asked Bai Yutang.

"Lian Qianzhong."

"I guess so."

The two men ran the stairs up to the roof of the building.

After cautiously going out the door, they scanned the entire rooftop... Sure enough, there was no one there.

"This is the highest floor, you can clearly snipe the surveillance room over there.” Ma Han looked into the surveillance room and saw the broken glass, as well as the ambulance and police cars rushing downstairs, and was a little puzzled, "Tony is a professional killer, why would he choose to work in a place like that?"

"To not attract suspicion." Bai Yutang headed to the back of the rooftop and quickly found a clear mark on the iron handrail and peered down, "Should have gone down here with a climbing rope."

"Head!" Ma Han called back to Bai Yutang.

Bai Yutang walked over quickly and saw a lot of shell casings on the ground.

"Why didn't they take the shell casings away?" Bai Yutang squatted down, picked up the bullet casings and looked at them, frowning, "This isn't a homemade gun."

"Homemade guns don't have this much power!" Ma Han picked up the bullet casing, which was twice as long as a normal bullet, and examined it carefully, frowning, "Not many places can sell this gun, I'll have someone check!" Bai Yutang nodded, stood up and walked to the side of the building, looking down at the scene of the bustling S City street below.

This time, the case seemed different from the previous ones.

If the most complicated cases in the past were those where different intentions and different cases were entwined, this time it was simply a case that involved many, many murderers with different agendas.

Soon, the police arrived.

Bai Yutang and Ma Han returned to the shooting club.

Zhan Zhao looked at him.

Bai Yutang shook his head.

Zhan Zhao sighed... Escaped? At this time, he was feeling more confused than Bai Yutang – the last chance, eagle...

Tony and his two brothers went to the hospital for medical attention, accompanied by the police, while the group returned to the SCI.

At the office.

"Don't move!" Ma Xin put a band-aid on Zhao Hu's face, "You're lucky, if it hit you any deeper, your face would be ruined."

Zhao Hu reached up and touched his face, "Will it leave a scar? "

Gongsun leaned against Zhan Zhao with one hand on his chin to watch him unwrap the package, while teasing Zhao Hu, "Don't worry, Qi Le has a punk style, she'll love you if you have a scar."

"That's true." Zhao Hu said with a smile, "She has a tiger tattooed on her back, very cool!”

The crowd all looked at him helplessly.

Zhan Zhao took out the information and looked at it, it was indeed the case files made by Dr. Fan. Just a few pages in he frowned as he stared at it, and the crowd all knew there must be a clue.

Bai Chi answered the phone and said to Bai Yutang, "Captain, Tony is in surgery now, he's seriously injured and the doctor says the situation is not good."

"As a scavenger, he has been cleaning up after others, I never thought he would be cleaned up by others!" The crowd was a little emotional, "Is it karma?"

"We already know where Lian Qianzhong is hiding though!" Bai Yutang said, "But it's likely that he'll move, and it's still easy to spook the snake by going there now."

"Don't worry!" Zhan Zhao looked at the file, and suddenly raised his head and said, "I have a way to get him to come out on his own."

The crowd looked at Zhan Zhao. He seemed more motivated than ever, probably because Tony's injury and near death had caused him to rebound a little against the killer's arrogance.

Zhan Zhao closed the file, "Let's go and meet Lian Qianyi first, his illness is quite interesting."

  1. Damnnnn. Zhao Jue was involved. He was a gray character that sometimes I forgot he didn't have any restrain to do some killing.

I love how so synced and fast the SCI members worked. The last shot would really succeed if Yutang was not there. I really admire his senses and reflects.

It seems Zhan Zhao wasn't hurted too bad. Because I read the bullet grazed his shoulder but he didn't need any medical treatment.

Well when they said it that way, I could finally see it too. Before it was lots of intentions and cases entwined. But this case had lots of murderers with different agendas so I just follow the flow and stop guessing. 😅
