S.C.I Mystery Series Volume 2 Chapter 79

Password Murderer 17 – Interlude

It was found that the case finally related to Qiao Weiming. Everyone was in a complicated mood and they couldn’t quite tell how they felt. They were a little happy because there were lots of doubts surrounding him, but there were also some worries. His intervention meant that the case could get worse. It’s very complicated.

“Is that group still active?” Bai Yutang asked.

Jiang Ping shrugged, “Xu Zhong has been kicked out, but I checked his group chat records and found something interesting.”

“Oh?” Bai Yutang and Zhan Zhao looked at each other. They walked to the computer and saw that the printer was printing out the group chat records. Zhan Zhao picked up a few pieces of paper and looked at them, then frowned.

“The people in the group are all bad guys.” Bai Chi took a few pieces of paper and looked at them. After looking at them for a while, he put them down, “Hmm… Such dark hearts”

“Heh…” Luo Tian couldn’t help but smile, “Look, killing intent and setting fires seems to be taken for granted by them.”

“Check this group for me to see if you can find any news.” Bai Yutang said to Jiang Ping.

“En.” Jang Ping replied while typing on his keyboard, “I’m already checking it.”

“Let’s ask Xu Zhong with these chat records to see if we can make him talk.” Zhan Zhao blinked at Bai Yutang and took the chat records into the interrogation room. Seeing Zhan Zhao’s mysterious appearance, Bai Yutang knew that he must have thought of something again, and quickly followed him in.

Zhan Zhao lifted the chat records in front of his eyes, and laughed while looking at them.

At first, Xu Zhong was a little curious at what Zhan Zhao was laughing at. Later, he saw Zhan Zhao reading off of the piece of paper while asking Bai Yutang, “Xiao Bai, if you see a child falling into the water, what would you do?”

Bai Yutang was taken aback for a moment, then replied, “Go and save them.”

“Guess what these people said?” Zhan Zhao asked while smiling.

“What?” Bai Yutang reached out to pick up the paper.

“Look here.” Zhan Zhao pointed to a few paragraphs of the chat log, “One said ‘I won’t save him when he’s dying. I just won’t bother saving him, I like watching him drown.’ The other said ‘I’ll throw a stone at him while standing on the shore and watching them drown’… This one is more interesting, saying that they would stand on the shore waiting for them to sink, then call his parents to see their painful expressions.”

Bai Yutang smiled disdainfully after reading it.

Zhan Zhao read the chat logs a few times and sneered, “I only see a group of cowards hiding behind the name of natural bad guys.”

Bai Yutang nodded, “They are indeed scum.”

Zhan Zhao threw all of the chat records in front of Xu Zhong’s eyes, and mocked him with the harshest words, “You are too stupid. It’s just a delusion of persecution. If you are timid and have no sense of social responsibility, don’t make any excuses. You are also born a bad person. If you have the ability to be a bad person like Hitler, hide in a corner and treat yourself as Lucifer’s reincarnation.”

Bai Yutang smiled, saying in his heart, ‘Don’t look at Gongsun being mean. With that mouth, Zhan Zhao is really no worse than Gongsun when he is mean.’

Looking at Xu Zhong, his face turned red, and he was obviously suppressing his anger.

Seeing that the fire wasn’t enough, Zhan Zhao planned to start another. He pointed his finger at the documents on the table and spoke to Bai Yutang, “Xiao Bai, do you know that these people embody the term ‘social scum’ very well. They are incompetent and lacking in courage, and they always have to say something so high-sounding. The reason for this is to make it seem as if they are inherently different. In fact, they are unable to integrate into mainstream society and are self-intoxicated. Most of these people live in difficulties and fail in their careers. In my opinion, they are not as good as a group of junior high school students who are deeply trapped in online games and cannot extricate them. Life is valuable to mankind and society… They should all be dead.”

“What right do you have to say that!” Xu Zhong’s anger seemed to no longer be supressed. “You think that it must be right for you to occupy the mainstream thinking? Hitler’s Nazi Party back then did not develop and expand this marginal thinking! In this world, all beings are equal. There are good people and bad people, so why discriminate against us?”

Zhan Zhao felt amused, and he looked at Bai Yutang, “Some people really believe the bullshit about the equality of all beings? Then why do you marry someone as a wife? It’s not the same as marrying a pig, because there are too many people like you, some of them rape corpses and others are even more perverted!”

“That’s just an act!” Xu Zhong was still arguing, “Man is innocent! He is born…”

“What are you born with?” Bai Yutang glanced at him coldly, “Put away your fallacies. Everyone is born to want to be rich and not poor, but does that mean everyone will go out and commit a robbery? Everyone will have one or two people who they don’t like, but are they just going to kill them? You are so ridiculous.”

“I… You are not allowed to laugh.” Xu Zhong said angrily, “I tell you, this world is slowly changing as more and more people are admitting that they are born bad guys.”

Zhan Zhao sneered, “Really? What about your kidnapping? Was it also taught by those natural bad guys? It seems that your gang is not very useful. Look at your fate, isn’t it a prison disaster?”

“No… It’s none of their business, their methods are not wrong at all!” Xu Zhong said viciously, “If it weren’t for my bad luck, you wouldn’t have been able to find out!”

“Heh.” Zhan Zhao shook his head and laughed, “You still have bad luck, but I think you are too lucky.” After speaking, he put away the documents, stood up with Bai Yutang, and left the interrogation room.

“It seems that the people in the group are instigating him.” Bai Yutang whispered.

“En.” Zhan Zhao touched his chin, “The mastermind behind the scenes is very likely to be in this group. Later, I will ask Jiang Ping to check the records of his previous chats and see if there are any similar cases relating to the other deceased… Maybe this is a big clue.”

Bai Yutang nodded and felt that it was reasonable. The two returned to the office and asked Jiang Ping to investigate the clues.

Jiang Ping had printed out a lot of documents, and everyone worked together to check them one by one.

“Captain, several accidental death cases seem to have something to do with this.” Ma Han said with a stack of papers in his hands.

“That’s right.” Zhao Hu said while reading, “This case of disguising a car accident was not too long ago, and the method is the same as the one mentioned in the group chat.”

“En.” Bai Chi remembered this case and said, “Both the husband and the wife died, and it was concluded as an accident.”

“It seems necessary to enter this group to study it.” Bai Yutang said to Jiang Ping, “Find a way to get in and see if you can catch a big fish.”

“Alright.” Jaing Ping decided to join the group after searching the information.

Everyone was busy for the entire afternoon. After summarizing the information, they concluded that most accidental death cases were planned by this group.

“Sure enough, there is a ghost.” Bai Yutang looked at the results of their investigation.

“Before, Ai Hu and the others had said that the number of people who committed suicide for no reason had increased this month. Xiao Bai, would you like to check it?” Zhan Zhao asked.

Bai Yutang nodded and asked Wang Chao and Zhang Long to go to Ai Hu to compare the information.

Afterwards, everyone went their separate ways.

Seeing that it was time to get off work, Bai Yutang’s cell phone rang again. He took it out and saw a big ‘Mom’ trembling on the screen. Bai Yutang almost forgot about their dinner. It suddenly occurred to him that there was still a major task tonight, so he hurriedly answered the phone, “Mom…”

“Uh…” Before Bai Yutang finished speaking, the phone was taken by a hand that came from his side.

Zhan Zhao looked curiously and saw that Bai Jintang had moved to stand beside Bai Yutang at some point and was now holding his phone, “Mom.”

From the other end of the phone came the sweet, loud voice of Mother Bai, “Ah, Jintang, I missed you. Did Yutang to tell you to take Gongsun back for dinner tonight?”

“He did.” Bai Jintang nodded.

“Then when are you coming back? Bring Chi Chi and Yang Yang, tell him that his grandmas miss him.”

Bai Jintang looked at Zhan Zhao and Bai Yutang on the side, “What time?”

Bai Yutang looked at his watch, “We’ll be there in half an hour.”

Bai Jintang told Mother Bai, “I will arrive in half an hour.”

Mother Bai smiled, “Mom made the dishes you like. Remember to arrive early, mua…”

Bai Jintang weakly handed the phone back to Bai Yutang, “I’ll wait downstairs for you.”

After he said that he was leaving, Bai Yutang and Zhan Zhao looked at each other, and Bai Yutang couldn’t help but curiously asking, “Brother, does Mom use that tone every time she calls you?”

With a rare embarrassment on Bai Jintang’s face, he turned around and glanced at the two of them, “Isn’t it the same for you two?”

The two shook their heads, and Bai Jintang’s expression changed again, then he turned and went downstairs.

The two were silent for a long time, then Zhan Zhao pointed at Bai Yutang, “Xiao Bai, did you notice? Your mother obviously loves Brother!”

Bai Yutang grabbed the back of Zhan Zhao’s neck and pulled him closer, “Dead Cat!”

“Oh!”

Half an hour later, everyone gathered downstairs.

Originally, they wanted to take Bai Chi with them, but Bai Chi was so scared that he dragged Zhao Zhen and ran away. They wanted to take Luoyang, but Luoyang wanted to eat with Ma Xin. In the end, only Zhan Zhao and Bai Yutang were left with Bai Jintang and Gongsun.

The car drove back to their family’s house. Along the way, Zhan Zhao and Bai Yutang’s hearts were beating like drums, but Gongsun and Bai Jintang looked like they were waiting and didn’t care at all.

When the car arrived, everyone got out. After Bai Yutang locked the car, Zhan Zhao pulled his sleeve, “Xiao Bai, what do you think Gongsun is carrying?”

Bai Yutang was puzzled. Turning his face, he saw Gongsun holding a large bag in his hand, and had no clue what was inside it.

Bai Yutang visually inspected it, “Um… You could put a corpse in it.”

Zhan Zhao rolled his eyes at him. Bai Yutang sighed, reaching his hand out to hold Zhan Zhao’s shoulder, “Oh… What are you afraid of? Since we are here, we may as well stay and make the best of it. What can we do if they fight? Isn’t your father here too, and our two moms. Nothing will go wrong.”

Zhan Zhao touched his chin, “I think Gongsun is smart, he might have some tricks.”

Bai Yutang raised his eyebrows, “Let’s wait and see.”

Afterwards, everyone went to the door. As soon as the doorbell rang, someone came to open the door. Bai Jintang stood in front and saw that as soon as they opened the door, a person swooped out and grabbed him, kissing his cheek, “Jintang, you finally came home, give Mom a kiss!”

Everyone was stunned, and they saw a bright red lipstick stain on Bai Jintang’s cheek. In front of him stood a mother who could only be described as his sister…

Zhan Zhao squinted his eyes and looked at the scene for a while, then turned to Bai Yutang, saying seriously, “You must have noticed!”

Bai Yutang was helpless.

“Gongsun!” Mother Bai leaned forward and held Gongsun in front of her to take a look at him.

Gongsun politely put on a charming smile, “Auntie is so young.”

“Oh… Why are you still calling me auntie instead of mom?” Mother Bai patted Gongsun, then reached out to pat Bai Jintang, “You know, when your mother was young, she liked this gentle type, and hated your dad the most!” As everyone walked in, they saw Bai Yunwen and Zhan Qitian sitting on the sofa, and Mother Zhan was still helping in the kitchen. After Zhan Zhao and Bai Yutang obediently greeted everyone, the quickly flashed into the kitchen.

“Mom, what’s the situation?” Zhan Zhao asked his mother.

Mother Zhan raised her eyebrows, hushed Zhan Zhao and Bai Yutang, and said, “Don’t make trouble.” After she spoke, she handed a dish to each of them, “Take them out.”

Bai Jintang and Gongsun stood beside Bai Yunwen and Zhan Qitian. Zhan Qitian smiled at them, “Jintang.”

“Uncle Zhan.” Bai Jintang greeted, then turned to look at his father, “Dad.”

“En.” Bai Yunwen nodded.

Zhan Qitian stood up, walking to Bai Jintang and exchanging a few words with him, leaving Gongsun and Bai Yunwen alone.

Zhan Zhao and Bai Yutang stood at the door of the kitchen, watching while eating from the plates of vegetables.

Bai Yunwen looked up at Gongsun, who smiled at him calmly, “Uncle.”

Bai Yunwen nodded, and looked Gongsun up and down, “Sit down.”

Gongsun sat down next to Bai Yunwen. Before Bai Yunwen could speak, he took out a box from the outrageously big bag, and handed it to Bai Yunwen, “I brought you some gifts with Jintang, I don’t know if you will like them or not.”

Zhan Zhao and Bai Yutang looked at each other — ‘A gift? Brought it back from the honeymoon?’

Bai Yunwen took it and saw that it was a bottle of 50-year-old wine. Bai Yunwen looked at the wine and raised his left eyebrow, “Thank you.”

== … Zhan Zhao and Bai Yutang looked at each other — ‘Gongsun found the key to Father Bai! Wine will kill, not to mention it’s his dad’s favourite flavour.’

Just as Bai Yunwen put down the wine bottle, Gongsun handed him another box. Bai Yunwen was a little surprised. He took it, opening it to see that it was a box of COHIBA Cuban cigars. Bai Yunwen’s right eyebrow raised and a small smile appeared on his face unconsciously, and he nodded, “En.”

== … Zhan Zhao and Bai Yutang looked at each other; the second key to Father Bai has been brought out.

Putting down the box of cigars, Gongsun took out another thing from his bag… Golf clubs…

Bai Yunwen took a look and nodded with a smile. The two talked from wine to cigars, from cigars to golf, and from golf to fishing… They also made an appointment to go the stream to fish on Saturday. In the end, Bai Yunwen said, “Who is your uncle? Call me Dad!”

Gongsun smiled, “Dad.”

== … Zhan Zhao and Bai Yutang opened their mouths wide… Well, Gongsun managed to win over the famously stubborn Father Bai in only half an hour! Of course, Bai Jintang must be the one who bought these things.

After a long silence, Bai Yutang asked Zhan Zhao, “Cat, what does your dad like?”

Zhan Zhao opened his mouth, but before he could speak, he saw Mother Zhan stretch her hand out from behind them and pull Bai Yutang over, “Yutang, I’ll tell you!”

Black lines appeared on Zhan Zhao’s face. (Angel: I’m sure everyone has seen the black shadow lines over a character’s face in a manga. These are the lines that the author is talking about.)

Later, Gongsun brought out a gift that Mother Bai liked, and the two talked very happily. In the words of Mother Bai, if she was thirty years younger, she would definitely kick Father Bai out and go after Gongsun…

Zhan Zhao and Bai Yutang shook their head and sighed as they ate. In general, there was no danger; Gongsun passed the test!
